RE: The Difference between Rugby and Yankee football. - crash - 04-10-2023 Again, the piglet is just making useless assumptions. Even if you had 6’8” tall receivers that could catch the ball and hang on to the ball, they’ve still got to be smart enough and mobile enough to be in the right place where the ball might end up. Unlike rugby, where the ball is thrown in from the sideline in a set piece of play, where the players are, gridiron is one big open field line out where the ball can go anywhere, or not.. it’s all about that first down line, until it’s not.. RE: The Difference between Rugby and Yankee football. - Piglet - 04-11-2023 Isnt the quarter back trying to hit a reciever in a play before the ball is thrown.? Its not rendom. To counter tall recivers teams will have to get tall defenders, or be annihilated, and yes Duchess, it is that simple. Simplicity is genius. Your welcome. Rugby is an open field, you can run the ball or kick to chase, depending where the game is at that time, the ball is alive.....ALL THE TIME. There is no stopping for a chat, tea, or a pint. It shows crash, you dont know rugby, and like the NFL, it is about grinding rather than kicking or running the ball. Even the french now seem to prefer grinding, letting the forwards do all the work, pinching yards. In the 1970s they ran the ball at every oppurtunity. I wish i could post up the game of all games, with a the try of all tries scored by Johnathan Davies for the Barbarians against south africa i think, i 1973. Ill find it and post it up, its worth it. It got me off my seat, and made my hair stand up...in awe, thinking did i see that? As for the NFL, a revolution in how its done is well overdue. RE: The Difference between Rugby and Yankee football. - BigMark - 04-11-2023 RE: The Difference between Rugby and Yankee football. - crash - 04-11-2023 Dude, I played Rugby Union on a Saturday, just to keep fit for Rugby League on a Sunday. In the ‘80s, when the game was a grind. The forwards had to work their arses of and everyone from the #10 back were show ponies. Not like today where they catch it and kick it almost immediately. RE: The Difference between Rugby and Yankee football. - Piglet - 04-12-2023 You have played rugby crash, and even rugby league, amazing. That wasnt in the USA then. Rugby league is a poor mans, northern game, there are no clubs in the south, and is pro with big attendances. Its just head down and charge, theres no art to it like union. That isnt the Barbarians game i have in mind, the Duckham try was good. I havent searched for the Davies game it went out of my head, but i will now. Having played im sure you will appreciate its other worldliness. RE: The Difference between Rugby and Yankee football. - Piglet - 04-12-2023 The video is Gareth Davies, the greatest try of all time, the Barbarians v the All Blacks 1973. The quality is poor but even so, its like something from fairyland, and the All Blacks were unbeatable at the time. Gives me the shivers. |
