RE: E-READER VS TABLET - Duchess - 12-01-2012 I got my Kindle Fire & I have a half assed review. I should preface this by saying I didn't buy this to use as an e-reader, I got it because it is comparable to an iPad yet didn't have a $600.00 price tag. All that came in the box was the device & a cable that connects to your pc for charging, no owners manual, no case, nothing. It's sweet. I've had limited time to play with it. The colors on the screen are crisp, loading pix was a piece of cake after I figured out how. I haven't read any books, mags or newspapers yet and the only site I've visited is Mock. It recognized the wifi in my home immediately. I have the 8.9 in. screen & that's a perfect size for me, I wanted something smaller than my laptop but bigger than my Blackberry. It has a camera but I have taken any pix yet, I haven't listened to any music with it so I can't comment on that either. I warned you that this was half assed. RE: E-READER VS TABLET - Teacher - 12-01-2012 My husband and I just received ours late this afternoon (an early Christmas gift from one of my sons). I already had the regular Kindle - my son told me that reading on the Kindle Fire hurt his eyes after so long but no problem reading a lot on a regular Kindle. So I guess I'll do as he does - read on my regular Kindle and do other "stuff" on my Kindle Fire. We are thrilled to receive them. RE: E-READER VS TABLET - Duchess - 12-18-2012 Ramsey, have you given any more thought to getting a tablet? RE: E-READER VS TABLET - ramseycat - 12-18-2012 Yes. I have wanted the Kindle Fire for awhile now. But one of my friends got an ipad and she loves it. It has books and everything she needs on it. She does not pay for a data plan as she has wifi in her house and most places she goes has it. So I am back to square one and trying to decide which one I want. RE: E-READER VS TABLET - Duchess - 12-18-2012 That's exactly how I use my Kindle. RE: E-READER VS TABLET - ramseycat - 12-18-2012 I just read your mini-review. I am thinking I might go with the Kindle. Much cheaper than the ipad. RE: E-READER VS TABLET - Duchess - 01-11-2013 (12-18-2012, 05:43 PM)ramseycat Wrote: I am thinking I might go with the Kindle. I'm loving mine. I'm so glad I didn't get sucked into getting the iPad. Loading the library books is very simple & quick. I've been able to do anything & everything I've wanted to do on it & its battery life is quite significant. RE: E-READER VS TABLET - ramseycat - 01-11-2013 I just got a new laptop so the Kindle is going to have to wait a bit but I am going to get it. RE: E-READER VS TABLET - ramseycat - 03-07-2013 I got my Kindle Fire today!! It's really cool. I downloaded my first book. Girl Gone. It was recommended by a friend. Any tips on navigating this thing Duchess? I haven't played around with it much yet. RE: E-READER VS TABLET - Duchess - 03-07-2013 (03-07-2013, 01:06 PM)ramseycat Wrote: I got my Kindle Fire today!! Yes, a Kindle is very cool, I'm so glad I didn't pay the big bucks for an iPad, I'm completely satisfied with what I have. I'm on a waiting list for Girl Gone, all the books I've read on it have been from my local library, I don't like to pay for books that I'm reading for pleasure when I can check them out for free. I don't have any tips to give. I did put several apps on, mostly sports related ones & a weather one. There are a shit ton of apps available. RE: E-READER VS TABLET - RaisingAPrince - 03-07-2013 Gone Girl is such a good book!!! I waited on the list forever to get it free from the library, totally worth it. I got a Kindle Fire HD for Christmas and LOVE it. No tips from me either, but I have pretty much been able to do anything I've set out to do on mine. RE: E-READER VS TABLET - ramseycat - 03-07-2013 I wonder if I can give the book to you Duchess when I am done? It's really good so far. RE: E-READER VS TABLET - Duchess - 03-07-2013 I don't think you can. Too bad because I'm 186 on the waiting list. RE: E-READER VS TABLET - username - 03-07-2013 Geez. You ARE a tightwad. Buy the damn book already. RE: E-READER VS TABLET - Duchess - 03-07-2013 I just checked the price on Amazon - it's 13.00. I'm laughing my ass off. I downloaded Winter's Bone earlier & I have others ready to read so I can afford to wait. RE: E-READER VS TABLET - Duchess - 03-07-2013 I'm so flawed. I wouldn't hesitate to spend a couple hundred on a new pair of sandals but I'm balking at a $13.00 book. RE: E-READER VS TABLET - ramseycat - 03-07-2013 I was kind of surprised it was $13. I thought books would be cheaper. I still have to figure out how to do the library thing. And I will check out the free books. Did anyone read Room? I did awhile ago. It was good but I didn't care for the end. RE: E-READER VS TABLET - Duchess - 03-07-2013 (03-07-2013, 04:15 PM)ramseycat Wrote: I was kind of surprised it was $13. I thought books would be cheaper. The very first thing to do is to check & make sure your library participates and then download the Overdrive app from Amazon. No, I haven't read Room. RE: E-READER VS TABLET - ramseycat - 03-07-2013 Will do. RE: E-READER VS TABLET - RaisingAPrince - 03-07-2013 Some books you can loan through Amazon. If you go to "Manage my kindle" and look at the list of your books, on the right there is an "Actions" tab. Click there and if the book is able to be loaned (the publisher makes the decision) there is an option to "Loan this title". You send it to person's email address. I've done this several times with friends. |
