It sounds like something from an enquirer magazine or twitter post or reddit "AITA" which stands for "Am I the Asshole?"
Does the husband fly first class for business? Any way I try to work this scenario in my head I get mad at the husband, wondering why he can't fork over a few $ for his wife to also fly first class. What does she do for a living? Can she buy her own ticket? If it were me I would buy my own ticket to another state entirely.
If a person is making a post on reddit or twitter then obviously they disagree with this situation but have no idea how to resolve it.

Ahhh there are kids involved! I was able to find it-New York Times, but I don't have a subscription. Also, I found a reddit similar but the wife flies first class.
