RE: FOOD FOR THOUGHT - Midwest Spy - 07-10-2015 My wife is pretty mad at me as, through the years, Ive purposely missed stopping at Amish places so she can shop when we've been traveling. Then, just a few days ago, her aunt stops in to town from Milwaukee. She'd toured the Amish country near Tomah, WI on the way over, and brought us the finest in fresh fruits and produce. I told her, "you and the kids make a day of it and head down there (about 3 hours away) while I'm working." That was met with silence and a not-so-nice look. RE: FOOD FOR THOUGHT - sally - 07-10-2015 What do you have against shopping for fresh produce? I know the Amish don't show off their tits, but you could probably see them thru a brick wall anyway. Yeah . . . she knew the offer was code for "I'm gonna surf porn!". Very selfish on my part and I will try to make amends. If you can get your food from the Amish you should consider yourself fortunate. They grow the best and the difference is noticeable both in looks and taste. I get meat from them too, it's pure, none of that funky hormone bullshit. Everything is farm fresh and wonderful. The strawberries she brought were as good as I've ever had. RE: FOOD FOR THOUGHT - sally - 07-10-2015 (07-10-2015, 04:14 PM)Midwest Spy Wrote: It's about stopping to shop. Period. I don't like that. I wouldn't let you get away with that. WTF are you in such a hurry for anyway, to go golfing? If I see something that looks good while I'm traveling I always stop. Nothing wrong with getting a bag of cherries or a flat of strawberries that taste like they came straight from heaven. Or homemade bread, imported cheese and olives . It makes a good snack in the car and beats the shit out of Subway or McDonalds. It took me nearly 49 years but I've seen the error of my ways. And, what exactly would you do to me as a punishment? RE: FOOD FOR THOUGHT - sally - 07-10-2015 Uh, make you turn around and stop at the fucking Amish market. Thought you were going to say "punch you in the nuts" or something like that. Or worse, cancel my tee time. RE: FOOD FOR THOUGHT - Duchess - 07-16-2015 I nuked a bag of popcorn and ate it for lunch. I had a combination wall oven, microwave and warming drawer and when that broke I replaced it with a double wall oven. The microwave looked good in the wall, but now I'd have to buy a counter top one and it would be an eye sore. So fuck it. I just make popcorn the old fashioned way, in a pot. It tastes a lot better that way and while it's not as convenient as putting a bag in the microwave it's not difficult either. RE: FOOD FOR THOUGHT - Carsman - 07-31-2015 I like FF's & PC's but be careful, see below: French fries and potato chips are delicious, but we might think that these foods just contain – potatoes, oil, and salt. In reality there’s a chemical that’s created when potatoes are fried in hot oil, and it can be really bad for you. Acrylamide is a chemical that’s mainly used in industrial processes like plastic production, and is also found in cigarette smoke. When starchy foods are cooked at temperatures above 250 degrees, acrylamide forms do to a chemical reaction of the sugars and amino acids in the food. French fries and potato chips contain more acrylamide than other foods, according to Cancer.org. Currently no cancer types are clearly related to acrylamide intake,” according to the site. But it has been found to increase the risk of several types of cancer in lab rats and mice when given in very high doses. For this reason the World health organization has called it a “probably human carcinogen.” The Environmental Protection Agency back this opinion up. To avoid acrylamide, it’s healthier to roast or bake potatoes (which creates less acrylamide than frying) or boil them or microwave them with the skin on (which doesn’t create any acrylamide at all). If you do fry, the darker brown the fry, the more acrylamide, so make sure they don’t get past that golden color. RE: FOOD FOR THOUGHT - Duchess - 07-31-2015 There is a bad chemical created when food is charred on a grill and people still gobble that shit up. RE: FOOD FOR THOUGHT - Carsman - 07-31-2015 (07-31-2015, 08:07 AM)Duchess Wrote: Very true, I liked my steaks & burgers "burned" to a crisp! No more, now, just about well done, or even a little less with a hint of pink. When beef, pork, fish, or poultry—is cooked at high temperatures, it forms heterocyclic amines (HCAs) and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). That has caused cancer in animal models (think: lab rats). Don't want to volunteer to find out if it also affects humans . |
