WOMEN ON MONEY - Duchess - 03-16-2015 There are no women on paper money. Does anyone find that odd? I never thought about it either until moments before I started this thread. Now that I am thinking about it I'd like to know why. I'd also like to know why I've never see it discussed. Surely we have accomplished women who are deserving of it. RE: WOMEN ON MONEY - ramseycat - 03-16-2015 What about the Susan B. Anthony coin? RE: WOMEN ON MONEY - Maggot - 03-16-2015 We could call George Washington Barbara Bush. RE: WOMEN ON MONEY - Blindgreed1 - 03-16-2015 (03-16-2015, 02:04 PM)ramseycat Wrote: What about the Susan B. Maybe in 50 more years when we have had a couple outstanding female presidents they will re-visite the issue and $25 bill with this so far fictitious person. Damn sure ain't happening this time around RE: WOMEN ON MONEY - username - 03-16-2015 (03-16-2015, 02:38 PM)SIXFOOTERsez Wrote: All the paper money is presidents, dead ones. Not Benjamin Franklin. Or Alexander Hamilton. RE: WOMEN ON MONEY - username - 03-16-2015 I don't find it surprising given how long ago paper currencies were introduced (generated). If we came out with some new denominations, I imagine there would either be a woman or a black guy on there. It would be un-p.c. if there weren't. That's a really good and cost effective idea to promote more gender equality -- no photo swap needed for new bill productioin; just a name change campaign. This new bill is being floated for 2020, btw. RE: WOMEN ON MONEY - Duchess - 03-16-2015 RE: WOMEN ON MONEY - Midwest Spy - 03-16-2015 In all seriousness, name three American women candidates that we could nominate. These would be mine: 1. Harriet Tubman 2. Martha Ross 3. Jackie Joyner RE: WOMEN ON MONEY - HairOfTheDog - 03-16-2015 (03-16-2015, 04:05 PM)Midwest Spy Wrote: In all seriousness, name three American women candidates that we could nominate. 1. sally 2. Billie Jean King 3. Madeline Ohare Murray (wouldn't need to swap out George Washington's photo, but would need to cross out "In God We Trust" for bills already in circulation) RE: WOMEN ON MONEY - Midwest Spy - 03-16-2015 (03-16-2015, 04:26 PM)HairOfTheDog Wrote:(03-16-2015, 04:05 PM)Midwest Spy Wrote: In all seriousness, name three American women candidates that we could nominate. I could agree to Sally if she's wearing a wife-beater, cut offs, holding a Pabst Blue Ribbon and has a cig in her mouth. RE: WOMEN ON MONEY - Midwest Spy - 03-16-2015 Amy Klobuchar is a Senator here in MN. She's a Democrat, but most Republicans I know like her. I'd like to see her get on a Presidential ticket at some point in her career. User beat me to it, but both Franklin and Hamilton played huge roles in the foundation of the country so they deserved inclusion. Sacajawea also was on the dollar coin, and prior to FDR Lady Liberty was on a lot of coins. Does she count? RE: WOMEN ON MONEY - username - 03-17-2015 Reaching back, Betsy Ross. Eleanor Roosevelt. Susan B is already on a coin. Again, I wouldn't advocate for changing currency but if we added denominations the options are endless. MLK, Jr. RE: WOMEN ON MONEY - Maggot - 03-17-2015 Lily Tomlin would look cool on a 10.00 but she needs her "operator" do on. RE: WOMEN ON MONEY - Carsman - 03-18-2015 How about Florence Nightingale? Rosa Parks? Nobody say Oprah RE: WOMEN ON MONEY - aussiefriend - 03-18-2015 Is Florence a US citizen? I thought she was British. Oprah definitely should be a front runner. She is an amazing awesome person. She is a good person, and much nicer to people than I would be. She handles the attention and focus on her constantly with grace and elegance. Whereas someone like me would get sick of it and tell everyone to bugger off......loudly and when ET was there. |
