DUNKLIN COUNTY, Mo. -- In a release from the Dunklin County Prosecuting Attorney's Office, Dunklin County Sheriff Bob Holder, Senath Police Chief Omar Karnes, and Dunklin County Prosecuting Attoreny Stephen P. Sokoloff have confirmed that law enforcement officers working the investigation of the disappearance of 3-year-old BreeAnn Rodriguez have located what are believed to be the child's remains near the floodway ditches northeast of Hornersville, Mo., approximately eight miles southeast of her home in Senath, Mo.
According to the officials, her remains were located by an officer of the Missouri State Highway Patrol Water Patrol, who was searching by boat.
Shortly after the discovery, authorities notified the child's parents, Edgar Rodriguez and Claudia Ramos, that her body was found.
"We appreciate all the help and support from the community in what has been a difficult time for all," Holder said. "We are saddened to confirm our fears, but glad we have been able to recover her for her parents."

If so, hoping she wasn't exposed to the elements and wildlife for too long.
Thanks for the update LC. Wonder if we will hear any more official updates before Morgan's arraignment on August 30th.

An interview with Breeann's mom, Claudia Ramos (though the article misspelled her name "Claudio", arghh).
Parents of murdered Missouri girl say they're at peace
As for Shawn Morgan, some volunteers who searched the area just after Breeann went missing now say they remember him acting suspiciously.
Prosecutor Steve Sokoloff says unfortunately, it may be a while before even they have a clear picture of why Morgan says he suffocated Breeann.
Sokoloff does say locating the body will help them build their case
“Obviously in any homicide case, location of the body is a significant evidentiary issue.”
Meanwhile Ramos says, in spite of what happened on this street, her family will continue to live on their dead-end street in Missouri’s bootheel, where Breeann loved to play in the only neighborhood the little girl ever knew.
“Thank you so much for praying for us,” Ramos said, “praying for my little angel.”
Sokoloff says if the case against Morgan goes to trial, he will consider asking for the death penalty.

Man suspected of killing 3-year-old Missouri girl had conviction for bomb threat in Arkansas
ST. LOUIS — The man accused of killing a 3-year-old Missouri girl has a criminal record in Arkansas for threatening to blow up the factory where he worked, according to court records obtained Thursday by The Associated Press.
Records from Greene County, Ark., show that Shawn Morgan of Senath pleaded no contest in 2004 to a misdemeanor charge of making a terroristic threat. He served one year of probation and was fined $1,000.
Before the plea agreement, Morgan was originally charged with felony threatening to cause a catastrophe for leaving notes in a restroom stall at Prestolite Wire Corp. in Paragould, Ark., in May 2002.
"Notice if Eddie, Britt, Amy, & Gary B. aren't fire soon I will leave a bomb and blow everybody up I'm not joking Take me seriosly," read a note on May 7, 2002. Two days later, another note in the restroom read, "Bomb baby boom."

Civilian bombers, snipers, and child killers are the biggest effin cowards on the planet, in my opinion. They are the scum that just want to kill unsuspecting and defenseless people because they are little rodents with no balls.
I don't care what Morgan's cousin's wife says, Morgan was a threat to society before he killed Breeann. Someone who threatens and plans to bomb co-workers if they are not fired is a dangerous nut job. It should have been taken more seriously, in my opinion. The fact that he entertained the thought and was serious enough to write notes and leave them in the workplace screams "DANGER" to me. He threatened to kill people in 2004 and he carried out his fantasy against a 3 year old baby in 2011. He is not a "nice guy" as he was previously described. He is an evil little POS who was probably always plotting in silence. Of course he was always at work and inviting neighbors over to swim. His co-workers and neighbors were his targets.
From the The Republic article (link upthread):
Kathy Morgan said yellow ribbons adorn City Hall and many homes in Senath as the community tries to come to grips with the horrific crime. Her husband is a cousin of the suspect, and she also lives on Ode Johnson Street. She said she feels sorry for both families — the Rodriguezes and the Morgans.
Despite his record in Arkansas, "Nobody would have ever suspected him of this," Kathy Morgan said of Shawn Morgan. "He's a shy guy. He's always working. Neighbors went over to his house to swim."

Nearly 300 people escort the family of BreeAnn Rodriguez as they walk from the Senath Church of Christ to the Senath Cemetery, where BreeAnn was laid to rest.
SENATH, Mo. -- Area residents filled the sanctuary, foyer, and spilled into the parking lot of the Senath Church of Christ on Saturday afternoon in support of the family of BreeAnn Rodriguez, a local three-year-old who's life was tragically taken on Saturday, Aug. 6, 2011.
The funeral service began at 3:45 p.m., and was officiated by the Rev. Dagoberto Barbosa, the Rev. Kevin Sullivan, and Jody McFadden, as a standing-room-only crowd of family, friends, and supporters gathered amongst the multitude of flowers and balloons to pay their final respects to the young child.
The crowd listened quietly, as the officiators attempted to bring closure to the family, speaking of the wonders of God and reciting the poem, "Jesus Loves the Little Children."
Following the service, the crowd of nearly 300 individuals escorted Rodriguez' family as they walked, serenaded by the tolls of the Methodist Church's bell, from the Church of Christ to the Senath Cemetery, where the service continued.
Following a short message and a prayer, the crowd said their final good-byes before leaving the family to mourn at the grave site.
Little BreeAnn was then laid to rest in the Mr. & Mrs. Dalton Via Addition of the Senath Cemetery.

today, i don't know whether he has counsel or will enter a plea.
defendant SHAWN MORGAN, court case number 11DUCR01024. Counsel Status Hearing has been scheduled for 8/30/2011 at 9:00 AM. This will take place in Dunklin Cty Circuit Clerk, located at: Courthouse Square in Kennett, MO 63857.
KENNETT, MO (KAIT) – The man accused of killing 3-year-old Breeann Rodriguez could face the death penalty after Dunklin County Prosecuting Attorney Stephen Sokoloff announced he was filing amended charges against him.
According to Sokoloff, one count of child kidnapping—a class A felony—is to be added to three existing accounts of first-degree murder, armed criminal action and tampering with evidence against the 43-year-old Shawn Morgan.
Sokoloff also said he filed a notice of statutory aggravating circumstances, which will permit the State to seek a death sentence for the first-degree murder charge against Morgan. While this does not guarantee that the State will seek the death penalty, it is a procedural step to make the penalty an option.
"I have spoken with Breeann's parents about this issue, and they are in support of my taking this step," said Sokoloff.

Well, if I were in charge, once he was convicted (we have the confession, I believe) he'd be given the 'death by wildlife' sentence.
He's clearly an animal, and animals can finish him off.
This punishment is NOT about the carnage of being eaten by an animal (though that is the end result) , but, instilling fear into the convict. Much like the fear he instilled into a defenseless child.

Prosecutor ammends charges in Morgan case
Daily Dunklin Democrat
Shawn Morgan, 43, of Senath, who is accused of killing three-year-old BreeAnn Rodriguez, also of Senath, appeared in a Dunklin County courtroom on Tuesday, August 30, again without an attorney. This is Morgan's second appearance before presiding Judge John C. Spielman. Morgan's previous arraignment hearing was at 9 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 16 at the Dunklin County Courthouse.
Morgan was escorted into the Dunklin County Courthouse this morning, Tuesday, Aug. 30, by Dunklin County Sheriff Bob Holder and Sheriff's Deputy Wallace Poynor.
Morgan's case was the first on the docket and once again, Judge Spielman read the charges against him which include felony counts of first degree murder, armed criminal action and tampering with physical evidence in connection to the case. During the proceedings, Prosecuting Attorney Stephen P. Sokoloff filed two new charges with the court against Morgan.
"I have filed an amended affidavit charging an additional count to the original three counts previously filed," Sokoloff said. "I charged a [class A] felony child kidnapping [charge]. The other thing I filed was [a notice] of statutory aggravating circumstances. That is a procedural step that I'm required to take if at some point in the future that I may seek a death penalty in the case [and] I must give notice under the Missouri statutes [for a] first degree murder case before a jury can impose a death sentence. They have to find the existence of statutory aggravating circumstances.
"There are 14 of them. They don't have to find all of them. They have to find one of them. I have to identify what ones I'm claiming exist in order to give notice to the defense. The ones I have given notice of are [that] the murder was committed while the defendant engaged in the perpetration of a kidnapping and/or the murder was outrageously or wantonly vile, horrible or inhuman, involved torture, [or depravity of mind]."
Sokoloff said that although a notice of statutory aggravating circumstances has been filed, this is not indicative of the State's intention to seek the death penalty. It is an initial first step taken to make that an option.
"I have spoken with BreeAnn's parents about this issue, and they are in support of my taking this step," Sokoloff said.
After reading the charges to Morgan, Judge Spielman asked if he had retained an attorney to which he replied he had not. Spielman granted Morgan an additional two weeks to retain an attorney. If at the end of two weeks, if he still does not have representation, according to Sokoloff, the judge will then set a preliminary hearing.
"If he hasn't hired counsel then he can put in an application for a public defender," Sokoloff said. "If he doesn't want to do that, then he is in the position of proceeding without [counsel]. Either he is going to get somebody hired or make application for a public defender."
Another court hearing has been set for 9 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 13.
After leaving the courtroom, Morgan was then taken back to the Dunklin County Justice Center where he remains without bond.
Outside the courthouse, the Rodriguez family and friends gathered. BreeAnn's father, Edgar Rodriguez, declined to comment but his wife, Claudia Ramos, offered a short comment, "We just want him to pay. That's all we want, is justice."
Morgan was arrested and formerly charged in Rodriguez' death on Saturday, Aug.13, and on Monday, Aug. 15, a probable cause of death affidavit was released relating to the young child's death.
According to the affidavit, on Friday, Aug. 12, authorities conducted an interview with Morgan, who stated on the day the child went missing, he discovered her standing on the ladder at the pool in his backyard. Morgan said he went to the girl, grabbed her, and carried her inside his house, where he used a white plastic trash bag to suffocate her, by holding it over her face and mouth.
The affidavit continues, adding Morgan then stated he placed the child's body in the same trash bag, drove to the floodway ditches at Highway 164, and disposed of her by throwing her over the railing. Morgan added that upon returning to his residence, he dismantled the bicycle that Rodriguez had been riding, and disposed of it in the same river system.
At the time of the affidavit, a search of the river system revealed the bicycle, which was identified by the father as belonging to the child.

They would save alot of money and time if the deputies would just handcuff him to that post in the picture and then go have lunch.

Shawn Morgan is up for another hearing tomorrow, presumably about counsel.
According to the case charges listed here
https://www.courts.mo.gov/casenet/cases/charges.do
11DU-CR01024 - ST V SHAWN D MORGAN
the prosecutor has filed an additional charge of Possession Of Child Pornography { Felony C RSMo: 573.037 }. It's dated 8⁄ 6 (the date of the crime) and this added charge was filed on 9⁄ 9 according to the docket here
https://www.courts.mo.gov/casenet/cases/...Dockets.do
Once you are at the case number, you can navigate using the tabs on top.
Additionally, if you do a litigant search on his name, Shawn D Morgan, you will also note that his wife filed for divorce on 9/6, and he was personally served in jail on 9/9. Here is the docket listing:
11DU-DR00226 - TONYA MICHELLE MORGAN V SHAWN D MORGAN
https://www.courts.mo.gov/casenet/cases/...Dockets.do
It is VERY interesting that Tonya's attorney is named Shannon Wright Morgan. I have to wonder if she is related in any way to Shawn's family. I did some digging, and found that her husband, Chad, is the principal is the principal of Senath Middle School, and that his mother is City Collector Kathy Morgan.
Is anyone on here local? Are all the Morgans related?

KENNETT, MO (KAIT) – The man accused of killing Senath 3-year-old Breeann Rodriguez, appeared in a Dunklin County Courtroom Tuesday morning.
According to the Dunklin County Prosecutor's Office, Shawn Morgan petitioned the court for a public defender to be assigned to his case, and the judge appointed one to him. Morgan and his lawyer are set to appear again in court on Tuesday October 4 at 9am.
Dunklin County Prosecuting Attorney Stephen Sokoloff has amended the charges Morgan faces twice, adding one count of child kidnapping, a class A felony, and possession of child pornography, a class C felony. These charged are to be added to three existing accounts of first-degree murder, armed criminal action and tampering with evidence.
