PRENUP ~ YEA OR NAY
#1

Would you be offended if you were asked to sign one? What's your personal feeling regarding them?

Nope . . . not offended.

Would I do it?

Now that's something I really need to think about.

It's a 'What' and 'Why' thing.

Shit happens. Prenups should be mandatory. I wouldn't just sign one as it was presented. I would negotiate. You don't marry people for the money, but everyone seems to have a different attitude come divorce time.

I believe that if a pre-nup is introduced, and the person that's being asked to sign one truly loves the 'pre-nupper', it shouldn't be a big deal to sign.

Everyone knows that relationships can go to hell quickly. Being presented with a pre-nup should not be considered offensive. "Well, you obviously don't love me..." Bullshit. It's called reality.

I think sometimes people forget that prenups often protect the one signing as well.

hah

They're the most unromantic things in the world but unfortunately an evil necessity. It wouldn't sit well with me but I think I could get over it and participate in one (on either side).

Sometimes 20% is better than nothing if you started out with nothing.

Maybe someday you will have a pot to pee in and a window to throw it out off. Till then, no need for a prenup.

Yes. However, what a lot of people don't realize is if it signed before the couple is married duress is a valid defense to it and it can invalidate the the prenup. Also, the longer a couple us married the less likely the court is to uphold a prenup.

Many attornies will suggest to have one signed before you are married. Have it updated and signed after you are married and update it ever 7 years.

Shrug....it's not romantic, but often a prenup protects both people involved. Also saves a lot in legal cost if there is a divorce. One can look at emotionally or logically. I prefer logic.
