So the Eagles GM is the angry ex, but you're surprised by Osweiler?

Imagine if you finally got out of the friend zone with a girl when she's on the rebound, then your girlfriend dropped you for her ex-boyfriend, expecting you to ride the backburner. Meanwhile, you've got this 39 year younger sidepiece flirtin with you, and your ex and her rekindled romance go to the big dance together. Then the dude dies, and now your ex texts you like, "Well, I guess we're going out again now." What do you do?

Yeah but the Broncos thing wasn't personal, it was business. Hell, if anybody should know what it feels like to be the perennial bridesmaid it's Kubiak. Guy spent his entire career watching Elway from the sidelines. Osweiler was riding shotgun for a couple years, sure, but he was about to become the driver of one finely tuned machine, and he traded all that for a whip that will stall out halfway home just like it does every other year.

Elway is all about that trophy. It's his single minded focus and he isn't shy about making changes to get it. Remember, he jettisoned Tim Tebow for Peyton directly after the latter's neck surgery, and directly after Tebow had got them to the AFC championship. People questioned that move too. It worked out.

Osweiler got paid, that's for sure. But as nice as all the extra money might be, when you're a quarterback, you want that glory and that comes with a ring. It's early to predict, but I think Osweiler made a mistake here.

He already became the driver of the finely tuned machine. But he rolled through a stoplight and Officer Elway yanked his keys and told Manning to drive him home.

For the record, Osweiler made slightly more money than Bradford made, which is appropriate. Them and Cousins are setting the new floor for franchise QB contracts.

I ran through the logic and the financials, and I still say Vinny Curry is a starter, but they can keep Barwin until next year. Barwin and Graham are in competition for LDE tho, and whoever loses is probably a cap cut before 2017. Graham is probably the low man skill wise, but Barwin is a couple years older. The three combine for 15M cap hit in 2016. That's a lot, but comfortable. 2017, the three combine for about 25M. That's unpossible.

Yeah I'm already on record as saying that was a tactical error, but the defense was so damn good they were able to win the superbowl in spite of Peyton's obvious weaknesses. Turned out not to matter. But regardless, Osweiler knew the spot was gonna be his sooner rather than later, and between the two teams Denver has a hell of a lot better position for making a repeat visit than Houston does. I think Osweiler took a business decision way too personally, and it may cost him.

When Connor signed that contract a few months ago it made me think he would be able to retire an Eagle. That's what I hope will happen for Brent too.

I still say you got a shot at shady coming back now that Kelly is gone. He's made it a poorly kept secret he is not all that thrilled to be in Buffalo, and when they played last year he did this:[Image: McCoy-kisses-Eagles-Logo-300x204.jpg]

He'd come back if they wanted him. He's an eagle.

I couldn't possibly know this but I think it hurt him a lot to be traded and I don't think he's over it. I was actually shocked when he got down on the ground and kissed our logo.

I think he was rightfully pissed at Kelly. He was one of those rare players, loyal to the colors he started with.

Barwin restructured last year (March 2015), but he's still on his 6 year deal from 2013.

I think he would... but I doubt Pederson is giving up a bunch to reacquire him and I doubt Roseman wants to pay him a fat contract again after the drama that went down.

I knew it was something but I thought it was an extension, I don't know where that came from but I'm so glad I didn't say or I'd look even dumber than I do right now.

I saw that a day or two ago. Didn't the Texans give him an obscene amount of money?

What do you think about all the wheelin' & dealin' Howie has been doing?

I think the Eagles are the "angry ex-girlfriend" of the NFL right now. They're getting rid of players, burning pictures, giving back that sweater they used to wear to bed...in little pieces. They are destroying every last bad memory of the Chip Kelly era Smiley_emoticons_biggrin

Meanwhile, I gotta have faith Elway and Kubiak know what they're doing. Truthfully, I think they were surprised at Osweiler's lack or foresight. Dude is leaving behind a perfect situation where they were gonna hand him the keys to daddy's Caddy at long last. He was gonna be starting QB on a team that won the frigging superbowl with ol' noodle-arms. He couldn't possibly have had a better shot at a ring than that.
You don't follow much football do you Dono? Broncos won the SB. Now the entire team you had last year will be nothing but skeletal remains by the beginning of the season. Osweiler thew the keys to the caddy back at dad because it's worth nothing more than scrap metal this year. Elway and Kubiak knew when they sent off Brock's contract that if it wasn't signed within 24 hours it would never be signed hah

Once again, if that were the case then I'd have to expect they knew what they were doing in letting him go. But I don't see them losing much of a step in their defense even with the post-victory raiding that goes on. Sanchez should have a decent shot at proving he's more than a midrange qb, guess we will see. At any rate Osweilers jump was way riskier for him than it was for the Broncos.

As for comparative knowledge of the game: I would suspect that if either of us knew as much about the backroom workings of NFL teams as you like to pretend, we'd be making serious bank actually working for them instead of trying to prove our manhood by making pontificating predictions on internet messboards. Wouldn't you say?

They didn't "let him go." He walked. And Houston's D is much younger than Denver's so I see it more of a win, win for Osweiler. And Sanchez?... hah Good luck with that Dono.

"Messboards" are a place for conversation Dono. My prediction that they'd bench Osweiler for Payton if he was healthy was a no brainer. You just bought into the media hype over a QB controversy when I didn't. Of course, you also think Trump will be executing people if he gets elected too, so I guess I should have expected this.hah

After losing Trevathan and Malik Jackson? Those are young, talented guys... your front 7 is definitely weaker. I doubt you'll draft anyone at 32 that'll replace those caliber players in the short term. And yeah, over the next 2-3 years, you'll have a lot of guys who want to get paid when their contract comes up. Gets hard to retain talent. Look at Seattle's defense. (The Pats can do it because Tom makes half what he could, saves them 10M a year and sets an example.)

Harrumph.

I like to think I understand the backroom workings. Given the chance I'd take that job in a minute. Maybe after I have a few years of finance experience I could get a contract gig. Idunno, I think if you don't come up through the scouting community, it's hard to convince teams you can provide insight. And scouting is a family game, "My dad's a coach/scout/GM, I played at XXX, I grew up around football" kinda thing.

And a second Harrumph for good measure.

Vonn Miller is a free agent now too. I think they will tag him to keep him but that will use a lot of CAP space. What will they do with Brandon Marshall? At best I think Denver ends up with a watered down version of a once great defense and an offense led by... Wait for it... Butt fumble. I'm gonna say it now. No playoffs for the Broncos in 2016.

Don't hit me - I never really minded having Mark as a backup. I always thought it could have been so much worse. I will always be grateful to him for kicking Cowboy ass on national television Thanksgiving Day. I would have kissed Mark Sanchez & Brandon Boykin's ass in the middle of Rt. 301 I was so friggin' thankful. I have nothing bad to say about him.
