No one needs to be the smartest person in the room to get/be informed about the subjects they're discussing.
You can actually do it for yourself easily without having to ask a liberal or anyone else.
The U.S. is generally seen as more safe, more driven by equality and opportunity, and less corrupt than Mexico and most other countries. It's always been a desired destination for a lot of refugees and immigrants.
However, that perception of the U.S. could be changing. Maybe you'll get lucky and our country wont' be the kind of place that attracts so many people in the near future.
Ok I agree the U.S.A. gives out more money and perks than the Mexicans do. I never thought of that............Thanks!

Of course that's not what I said Mags, but you seem to be having fun. That's a good thing.
Anyway, I already know your belief that migrants who come to America illegally or otherwise get all kinds of hand-outs, healthcare, welfare and what-not.
We've discussed the actual facts of the matter many times over the years. I know by now that you don't care about them, so I won't put them forth again.

Where are you getting your information Maggot? I will quote the first article I found from USA Today (Is that a reputable source?)
Quote:More than 1,700 caravan members have applied for asylum in Mexico and are being housed and fed at a camp in the city of Tapachula near the Guatemala border. Advocates working on migration issues say Mexico’s agency for adjudicating asylum claims is still sorting through a crushing backlog.
And then a sentence to support your claims:
Quote:Mexico held little appeal for some of the caravan participants – some of whom cling to “el sueño americano” (the American Dream).
"We want to earn dollars," said Pedro José, 30, who earned 50 quetzales, about $6, per day as a bricklayer’s assistant in Guatemala.

From Reuters:
More than 1,700 people in the convoy have applied for asylum, while others have returned home, according to Mexico’s government. The Honduran ambassador said on Friday the group officially had 3,500 members. Other estimates go much higher.
By Saturday, more than 100 Honduran migrants opted to seek refugee status and enter the temporary work program proposed by President Enrique Pena Nieto on Friday, said Mexico’s National Migration Institute. Many others rejected the offer.

I'm thinking that the ones that are actually seeking asylum jumped at the chance to stay in Mexico. The ones that continue may have other motives besides "fleeing" the country.

Well, I don't believe in the other motives. But you or I don't know that, do we.
I am glad Mexico is doing something. This is very important. I do hope this can be handled peacefully at our border. Perhaps instead of just creating jobs for prisions at the border jobs can be created to help process these things.
I don't know what the answer is. I hope that work can be done in the countries in which they are fleeing. And I hope they are treated fairly here as well.

Well at any rate Trump has been able to get Mexico to start doing something, anything and that's more than they have ever done.

It's being said that the trump administration was informed that only a very small percentage of the immigrants are likely to make it to the border weeks from now and trump sent 5200 troops anyway. He did that for you and those who think like you do. He wants you to think there is a massive threat where one doesn't exist and he's using our tax dollars to fund it. He wastes a great deal of money, so does his VP, as well as his Cabinet, yet I never see you say anything as compared to how vocal you've been about it in the past.

How many are destined to come to the border? What is the current count today?

I don't know the answer to either question. It could be out there but I haven't kept track of it. I might be on top of it if I were concerned but I'm not.

...aaaaand now the prez says he'd like to have 15,000 troops at the border. There's not even that many fighting the Taliban!
He's manipulating some people. All of this drama for a nonexistent crisis.

I'm hoping that's just another lie. It would be a ridiculous use of military and waste of tax payer money.
I think Trump has managed to turn the caravan gift into an albatross at this point. The fear-mongering dramatics have jumped the shark big time.
The hard-core anti-immigrant folks in his base may be lapping it up, which could give some Republican congresspersons in deep red districts a voter bump.
But, most everyone else (regardless of political affiliation) has gotta be put off by the bizarre dramatics at this point, I hope. If so, that's not good for Republicans up for election in moderate-red, blue, and purple districts.
Trump said his midterm campaigning for Republican congresspersons was going to focus on the caravan and Kavanaugh. So, he's gonna just keep amplifying the caravan issue beyond belief right up until Tuesday, it seems.
It looks to me more like Trump is targeting voters in his core base for a 2020 presidential re-election bid than focusing on voters who will decide the fate of Republican congresspersons/candidates up for election now.

Trump is now telling troops to shoot if they are throwing rocks at the military. Because that has happened in Mexico. The people in the caravan were throwing rocks at the Mexican police.
I couldn't find anything to back up his claims.

That's insane. Shooting people for throwing non-lethal items is what the military does under authoritarian regimes.

I can't imagine being in the military right now under this president.
