Shoes - yes or no in the house?

Depends on the guest. Muddy rugrats have to take off their shoes. My 80 year old mom gets a pass. I'm less concerned about it downstairs because we have hardwood. We recently put in new carpet upstairs though so I pretty much want shoes off at the bottom of the stairs (except for mom).
