Great! So far I've had far more success losing people than leading.
The people who wrote that "Osiris, in his name of Seker, tows the earth by means of balance" got such ideas from the ancient writing. Whether or not they truly understood it is immaterial but in this case I believe they probably did understand it.
They got all these ideas from the ancient texts and they often did not understand them at all. There are dozens of lines in the PT which can be interpreted to mean that "balance" (and Seker) built the pyramids;
1824a. To say: Osiris, N., Horus has carried thee in the ḥnw -boat;
1824b. he carries thee as a god, in thy name of "Seker,"
1824c. as he carries his father.
The "henu-boat" is the counterweight said to be shaped like the dorsal carapace of the grasshopper.
1965c. and how shall he be assembled?
1966a. Then let this copper be brought ------ the ḥnw-boat --- with it.
...1968a. Let then Seker of pdw come,
...1970a. Wherewith shall N. be caused to fly?
1970b (N. 758-759). Then let there be brought to thee ------ ḥnw-boat, built by Mw-ḥn,
1970c. that thou mayest fly therewith, that thou mayest fly therewith,
And how could this contraption possibly work?
1375c. Neit is behind him; Śrḳt-ḥtw is before him.
1376a. The ropes are knotted; the boats of N. are tied together
Neit is the Goddess of the southern ascender and Serket the Goddess of the northern counterweight. An "Overseer of the Boats of Neit" is the only occupation represented in the lower (workmen's) cemetery. Isis/ Nephytys preside over the other equipment.
Later people didn't understand much of this. In Egypt it was better remembered than many other places but they still couldn't read the ancient texts. It looked like gobblety gook to them just as it does to Egyptologists.
