If a child is simply missing, I think it's unreasonable to suggest that a parent stop looking. I can see the need NOT to contaminate a crime scene but if one of my kids simply went missing at a campground or something, I don't think I'd physically be able to just sit back while others looked. Uh-uh. In the first hours/days, it's just about trying to find the kid, IMO. LE is welcome to do their work to determine if a crime is involved but I would be focusing on just trying to find him/her.
