My husband is working towards a black belt. He belongs to a very strict dojo; those fuckers don't just hand them out. He's been going at least 3-4 times a week for probably 9 years and he's green belt, 2nd stripe. Next up is brown.
They also use him as slave labor. He pays for the lessons and in turn, they have him teach classes. It's supposed to solidify his own experience which I suppose it does but he gets a little impatient every now and then teaching 6 year old's kata 1.
