It made me a little sad that the last young woman didn't have anyone by her side (seemingly).

It might please you to know that I've just read that Gina's family has taken her in and are loving her like their own.

This won't be a surprise but it sounds like there has been a little difficulty in adjusting to their freedom. Gina was only a week past her 14^th birthday and emotionally/mentally her growth has been stunted. It's said that they all have to be watched, whatever the hell that means but none of them are left on their own.
