During the national hunt racing season in the UK loads of horses die needlessly every season many horses that are put down trackside could make full recoveries and have a good quality of life but would never be able to race again. So as far as the owner is concerned its a one way trip to the glue factory if the horse isn't making any money for anybody.
Plus the fact there are loads of horses still doped up the the eyeballs, recently in the UK a famous Arab owned stable was discovered to be doping their horses and have been doing for years.
The horse racing business is as crooked as a dogs hind leg.
