Yeah, it probably strikes you as silly when a public figure is mourned when there's so much death and suffering everywhere else in the world, but the best way I can explain it is that since these are public figures, they feel like people we know and like. Not every public figure would be mourned by me however... I couldn't care less if some idiot like Paris Hilton smashed her car into a freeway overpass. But Miranda Richardson represented, to me, a warm and kind person that loved her family and was loved in return. Maybe I'm reading too much into this, but her death and her family's loss hurts something inside of me.
Princess Di? Didn't bother me. John Kennedy Jr? I was pretty upset at his death as well. If you think those are 'fake' reactions, I certainly can't do anything to change your mind.
