what you are describing is an emotional shock reaction to a very public situation. Sure the Princess Di and John Kennedy deaths were sensational and people watched and mourned and their grief became part of the story. Your reaction was normal and it was consistent with the "masses of sheep" who for some unknown reason cried for a woman (ex-princess di) that they did not know at all.
I will be honest that the story was interesting to me at the time, like many other stories. But was I literally upset and broken down by her death, no. I did not know the woman at all. I am being honest. I found the story interesting and sensational because it was on every channel all day long for weeks, but that is it.
We are talking about 2 different things. Actual grief over a family member or loved one versus a reaction due to a news story that has been sensationalized into an almost entertainment situation to get an emotional response from the viewer (you, me, and everyone else watching). It is "the drama" unfolding infront of our eyes and many many many stories have been written about this and the mass reactions to similar situations.
