I am leaning towards siding with Liquid here. When a celebrety dies, I may say "Oh, that is too bad, she was a good actress/singer..whatever". It is too bad they will no longer contribute to their craft, but beyond that...
A case in point. On December 7, 1980 my mom died after battling cancer for 5 years. On December 8, 1980, a really good singer and songwriter was shot and killed. Guess who I was crying for?
It as sad when Christopher Reeve had his accident, and when his wife died just a couple years after him. But one can acknowledge a sad set of circumstances for a family without actually "grieving" as if a close personal friend had died.
What concerns me more today is the story of a local police officer, age 23, who was shot in the head by some stupid kid. He lived, and is recovering..and will be rehabing for more than a year. We are all rooting for him, and for his recovery. But beyond that..I have never met him, never will..but I can still hope for a good recovery.
