Heh... I went to a party where I met the girlfriend of a guy I've known for ages. I'll call him Derrin. I said to her "Oh hey! You must be Derrin's...." (girlfriend was coming next) She cut me off in mid-sentence saying "I'm not DERRIN'S anything! He doesn't OWN me." lol Okaaayyy. I think that's a little overboard though, seriously.
I understand that 'the wife' or 'the husband' is a little disrespectful, but I can see how they would tease each other that way. Getting huffy about being called someone's girlfriend though, is a little extreme. When I say "my friend", the only thing I'm claiming to 'own' is a piece of their friendship. People are so damned touchy.
