Fortunately............there are regulations making it very difficult to get a hold of automatic rifles in this country and they have to be registered. So, we don't currently see mass/multiple shootings carried out with them in the U.S.
We do, however, see easily-accessible and unregistered semi-automatic rifles used in mass/multiple shootings regularly.
Shots fired from semi-automatic rifles (and automatic rifles, just for you) -- all other factors equal -- do more tissue/internal damage and leave larger exit wounds (plus blood loss) than wounds resulting from handgun shots.
So yeah, Bigman, the victims would have had less chance of survival or full recovery had the shooter used an AR-15 or similar semi rifle (or an automatic rifle, just for you).
