Sometimes the good guy(s) with a gun stop the bad guy with a gun and minimize the deaths and injuries. That's great when it actually works out that way.
However, the element of surprise always gives the bad guy with a gun an inherent advantage, especially if the bad guy has a carefully crafted plan and is familiar with the area.
And, sometimes the good guy(s) with a gun winds up shooting innocent people in the chaos.
Also, sometimes when the cops show up, they wind up mistaking the good guy with a gun for the bad guy with a gun and shoot.
More good guys with guns and getting rid of gun-free zones is not the solution to the problem of mass shootings, in my opinion, based on reality.
