Media is reporting that neighbors had called the police to report suspicious behavior at Castro's house; including one that specifically reported what seemed to be a woman being held against her will.

LE went to the home in response to that call, knocked on the door for approximately 8 minutes, and then left.

Amanda Berry's mother apparently died of a heart attack 3 years after her disappearance.


Side note: This is similar to what happened in Jaycee Dugard's case. Garrudo, her abductor, was a convicted felon who was visited regularly by parole officers, and neighbors had also called police to report suspicious activity. Still, none of these authorities checked the back yard where Jaycee (and later her daughters fathered by Garrudo) were being held.

Yes, glad he made the decision to get involved. So many would have made a different decision.

Driving in this AM I heard that Castro had lost his job and the home was recently in foreclosure. Who knows how this could have ended up if they weren't found.

Michelle, Gina, Amanda (and her daughter) are all reportedly doing very well and have positive attitudes, according to FBI investigators and family members interviewed. Strong young women.

Haven't seen confirmation as to whether one of the Castro brothers is the father of Amanda's child; still don't know exactly what all happened to the girls while they were held captive.

At this time, it appears that Michelle and Amanda were unknown to the Castros prior to their abductions (all of which occurred within 4 miles of the Castro home).

Gina DeJesus, however, was known to the Castro family. Weird related points:

1. Ariel Castro's son wrote an article about the disappearance of Gina, specifically the impacts on her family and the community, as posted upthread.

2. Ariel Castro's daughter (Arlene) went to school with Gina and was interviewed as Gina's best friend on the America's Most Wanted episode dedicated to Gina's disappearance. Eerie to watch it.

I imagine this has reached the desk of Mike DeWine the Attorney General of Ohio he sure has his plate full. This is a shocking thing to have happened in Ohio.
