Cobra for me would have been $440 a month. I used to pay about $130 a month for medical for myself and dental and vision for me and the kids when I was working.

I don't even want to know how much my surgery cost. Two different hospitals and an ambulance in addition to the surgeon. Thank God they had me sign up for Medicaid while I was in the hospital. I hate that I had to do that though. I can't wait to move and get a job so I have coverage.

I.ve not had insurance since 2003, I got laid off and the cobra package was $450/mo. For a guy that's healthy, doesn't smoke and doesn't spend $450 a year in medical expenses. Its no better now, same $

I think that's bullshit and it's NOT the same as requesting a specific gender of healthcare provider. I can see someone preferring a male (or female) to insert their cathater or something but the color of their skin ought not make a bit of difference.

It's discrimination no matter how you look at it. Saying you would prefer a female over a male carries less of a sting than stating you don't want a black caring for your needs while hospitalized. If I were single it would be significantly less, however, there's still a $25 co-pay with nearly every visit, and I'm still on the hook for the first $3K out of pocket for something big.

Now, it's getting worse.
