SHOTS FIRED NEAR THE CAPITAL

Something is going on in DC right now. The Capital police helicopter landed near the Capital after reports of shots being fired. I don't really have much more info than that but I intend to try & find out.

I really hope there isn't a plethora of bad reporting.

Apparently there is less security than usual because of the shutdown.

Just to be clear - I wasn't laughing about the idea of people be injured or worse, I was chuckling over how scared Congress must have been. That's just the way my warped sense of humor works.

Seems the situation is contained now. The suspect is reportedly a female motorist who was trying to bypass security on Pennsylvania Ave - no suspected ties to terrorism.

So, I won't be serving as your canvas. (Okay, it's really because I don't think my brown-eyes could help from mentally undressing you right there in the classroom, and that would be entirely inappropriate).

However, Clang's generally a nice laid-back guy, he may let you finger paint his cajones - for a price. Probably not, but never you know until you try.

It's being reported that she was a 34 yr. old dental hygienist from Connecticut.

According to her ex-boss, she fell and suffered a head injury a couple of years ago - she had a bad temper and tended to go against the grain. Carey found out she was pregnant while in the hospital with that injury. I'm glad the little girl is okay, as well as the Secret Service agent who was hit by her car.

She posted about frustration with men who were players and how she was gonna start running background checks.

No motive known yet. I'm wondering if she had dated someone who worked at the Capitol or if she was trying to commit suicide by cop?

History of mental illness strikes again?

Carey's boyfriend contacted police in December saying he feared for the safety of their child, who was 4 months old at the time, according to a law enforcement source involved in the investigation. The boyfriend said the woman was acting delusional, claiming the president had placed Stamford under lockdown and that her house was under electronic surveillance, the source said.

He told police that she was suffering from post-partum depression, was having trouble sleeping and was on medication. Carey underwent a mental health evaluation, said the source, who added that the boyfriend has been question by federal authorities about Thursday's events.

The source told CNN that Carey left a letter addressed to the boyfriend at her apartment and that it appeared to contain white powder. The letter is being tested for hazardous substances.

Carey's mother, Idella Carey, told ABC News Thursday night that her daughter began suffering from post-partum depression after giving birth to her daughter, Erica, last August.

"She had post-partum depression after having the baby" she said. She added, "A few months later, she got sick. She was depressed. ... She was hospitalized."

Idella Carey said her daughter had "no history of violence" and she didn't know why she was in Washington, D.C., on Thursday. She said she thought Carey was taking Erica to a doctor's appointment in Connecticut.
