There are so many repercussions associated with a severe natural disaster; it boggles the mind. It's easy to see why top military leaders consider climate change one of the most serious threats to national security. Whether one believes the degree of climate change is fully, partially, or not-at-all stimulated by humans...our politicians need to put a top priority on infrastructure and disaster planning / funding, in my opinion. I feel bad for everyone caught up in Harvey, especially those 25,000 to 40,000 people who left New Orleans for Houston when Katrina hit and permanently resettled in and around Houston. They lost everything 12 years ago, rebuilt, and some of them now face losing everything again. :(

Irma is in the Atlantic and she looks like a monster. I really don't want to have to spend a week thinking about this.

I am about 4 hours inland in NC. We have had a ton of rain the last 2 days from Harvey.

Home is where you're treated the best, but complain the most! Life is short, make the most of it, get outta here!

I'm not very concerned about the rain. I always think about the high winds, I'm surrounded by trees. I do feel bad for those who have to worry about flooding though.

Harvey will be financially affecting us all due to the astronomical damage cost it has caused! All the insurance companies will be spreading the financial hurt across all policy holders! The cost of Everything, (food, gas, clothes, etc. will rise exponentially!
Eventually, we all will feel the pain of Harvey! Not horrendously displaced as Texans, but still pain. In the news today: Harvey is predicted to be the costliest natural disaster in the history of the U.S., with a damage cost exceeding Hurricanes Sandy and Katrina. AccuWeather predicts that the damage cost will hit $160 billion. Business leaders and the Federal Reserve, major banks, insurance companies, etc. will begin to factor in the negative impact this catastrophe will have on business, corporate earnings and employment. The disaster is just beginning in certain areas,” “Parts of Houston, will be uninhabitable for weeks and possibly months due to water damage, mold, disease-ridden water and all that will follow this 1,000-year flood.” Before Harvey, the costliest hurricane to hit the U.S. was Hurricane Katrina, which caused $108 billion in damage along the Gulf Coast in 2005. The second-costliest was Hurricane Sandy, which caused $75 billion in damage in 2012.

Actually, fixing the damage will be great for the local economy.

Sally, now is the time to make your plan. If you think you might need a hotel, make the reservation today, you can always cancel if it's not too bad at home.

I know it doesn't look like it's turning. If a cat 4 or 5 comes offshore over here I'm afraid I won't have a house left. I'm going to make the boarding reservation for the dogs tomorrow just in case. I'll send them there even if it doesn't come, they love going there anyway.

Actually it looks like it could hit south Fl., but it could also turn and go straight up central fl. The uncertainty is annoying.

Sally, someone just told me that Rick Scott has already declared a state of emergency for every county there. Holy shit, she's still 5-6 days out.
