Thousands of cases of Enterovirus D68 (EV-D68) have been seen across the country since mid-August, landing scores of children in intensive care units with acute respiratory distress. Not only is there no end in sight to this current and extremely rare outbreak (at least in this country), a disturbing new symptom is presenting itself in children who have been infected with EV-D68...paralysis.

Last week, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) announced that nine children in Colorado recently presented with polio-like symptoms, with muscle weakness and paralyzed limbs. Four of the children have tested positive for EV-D68, while health officials are still awaiting the test results for the others.

On Friday, the CDC issued an official health advisory to U.S. physicians, which stated:

Common features included acute focal limb weakness and specific findings on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the spinal cord consisting of non-enhancing lesions largely restricted to the gray matter. In most cases, these lesions spanned more than one level of the spinal cord. Some also had acute cranial nerve dysfunction with correlating non-enhancing brainstem lesions on MRI.

Most of the children stricken with the mysterious paralysis live in Denver, according to the CDC. Of course, Denver is a 'sanctuary city' for illegal aliens. As such, nearly two months ago, the city of Denver applied for a $12 million federal grant to help settle some of the so-called 'unaccompanied minors' who arrived on this country's Southern border in the last several months, the Denver Catholic Register, reported.

We are likely seeing the early stages of an epidemic which, due to President Obama's policy of sending children from Central America and Mexico throughout the interior of this country without any quarantine period, has now allowed EV-D68 to spread to 40 states. And, while this latest affliction is incredibly frightening, the warning signs have been present in this country for at least two years.

Since 2012, there have been two dozen children who have experienced similar paralysis, following respiratory distress, according to Dr. Keith Van Haren, a pediatric neurologist at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital in Palo Alto, Calif.

All of those cases were confined to California (a 'sanctuary state').

In my opinion, there's no evidence of a link beween immigrant children and the infection just because a couple of the states that have experienced cases also happen to house immigrant children. I'm not saying that there couldn't be such a link but that's far from a given at this point, as far as I can see.

I really am not worried as much as you may think, or I act like I am.
I'm more concerned that our illustrious leaders will botch the overall situation. I realize that the threat is minimal right now, and chances are very slim for being infected. However, if "they" do let it get out of hand, as great as this country is, we may not be able to handle the exponentially spread of the virus, especially if it mutates to being "airborne"!

Yes, I see that there is only a comparison between the two that does not really tie them both together. I researched it for a bit last night and because the government never said who went where its really tough to speculate that the two are linked. The virus was first seen in California back in 1962 and I cannot find the first person that it hit. One thing is for sure, its spreading. I heard one kid died yesterday in N.J. I think. It really needs more research though.

A virus mutates everytime it enters a new host, so I dare say your figure of 50 times is far too low. However, the degree of mutation is what is relevant, and to date the virus has not mutated towards airbourne or dermal transmission so just stop drinking the media kool-aide Cars.
