MANDATORY VOTING
#1

What do you think about that? Should all Americans be forced to vote in elections?

That may sound OK on paper, but would never work. It is a RIGHT to vote, not a mandate. I always do say if you do not vote, do bot bitch about who won.
I just think there are too many people out there who just plain do not give a shit about the whole system.
What I would like to see is more incentives to vote, and more ways to vote. If there was a way to do it safely, do it online. Provide rides to those without transportation, If you have elderly or disabled who are housebound, remind them of the absentee system.
But making people vote? Too many issues.

As long as I can write in "MY BUTT" as a candidate, who cares?

No I don't think I should be forced to stand in line to choose between two dipshits that I equally dislike.

Hey, given some of the other choices, I might stand in line to pick your butt.

But, I don't think picking CLANG'S BUTT or any other candidate should be mandatory.

I agree with QueenBee and support efforts aimed at increasing voluntary voter turn-out though.

If all the lazy, welfare living fat asses out there were required to vote, we'd never have a Republican president again.

No. I'm assuming that most people that were required to vote would just show up and punch a ticket without educating themselves or forming any fact based opinion(s). The votes would be meaningless (although COULD sway an election) and the costs to administer that...?

No. I'd rather pay for forced contraception.

We do. Don't worry the multi-national corporations still corrupt our democracy mandatory or not.

I think it's a very bad idea. Those who vote now are educated voters. They take the time to know what they are voting for and weigh the pros & cons. People who are made to do anything, especially Americans, will do the most fucked up thing possible to show their displeasure.

Nope, thats the very next thing to saying you have to vote for THIS guy. I should have the right to abstain from the vote if I don't like any of the asswipes.

Stop your moaning and just get on with it already and be grateful everybody that you were not born a woman, in Saudi Arabia, where you not only couldn't vote, but couldn't drive too. Ouch, that's gotta hurt Carsman.

Get your ass out of that comfy chair and git out there and vote. If both my grandfathers hadn't fought in WWII the Germans might be running the joint and you wouldn't git nuthin'.

Voting isn't a right. It's a responsibility. Those who don't exercise it deserve to lose it.

Even if you are an uninformed voter?

My mom used to tell me to vote anyway even when I told her I didn't know anything about the candidates in state and local elections.

Ignorance is no excuse. Right now in my town there is a bridge named after two persons whose chief claim to fame is their unceasing fight to earn the right to vote for entire populations of Americans. People in this country have gone to jail and been beaten over the right to select their leaders. Some have died. Every day we see more ways those in power try to retain it by circumventing or rearranging that right to vote. I may not get out to the polls every time a vote is put out there, but I do as often as I can and I would never consider it an inconvenience. It would be easy to say the uninformed or stupid should stay home. That's how the elites keep power. They would prefer it if you do stay home. And that's why you shouldn't.
