Well then the same thing would apply to heterosexual couples that adopt or have surrogate babies. No difference and I have no problem with it as long as average business's aren't forced to pay for it.

I know you weren't suggesting that a non-pregnant primary caregiver be given medical maternity leave. I was just saying that companies that do have policies for pregnant woman only is because... well, they're the ones that have to give birth to the baby. And I don't think they should have to change that policy to accommodate anyone who isn't pregnant.

Yeah, I think we're saying the same thing sally.

For companies that afford maternity leave based on a combination of medical and caregiving/bonding time, all primary caregivers with a new baby should get the same caregiving/bonding time, whether they gave birth or not, male or female.

And, all primary caregivers' spouses, male or female, should be given what's typically termed "paternity leave" if their employers offer it to hetero men whose wives give birth.

For companies that only offer medical leave to pregnant mothers, the above doesn't apply if the primary caregiver isn't pregnant.
