For the love of God, if you can't spell or don't know how to put together a proper paragraph, don't type! I am damn near chewing my own face off in my effort to bite my tongue. I used to rag on people for their poor skills and the way they would massacre the English language, I haven't done that in a long time, I think it's lame but I'm on the verge of losing my shit because of this. Spelling words correctly should be second nature, there shouldn't be any real thought involved. You either know how to spell or you don't and if you don't, find another way to communicate.

Do any of you deal with people whose written communications you have to decipher?

I deal with my piss poor spelling every day. I have always struggled with this fucked up English language. It drives me crazy the way some shit is spelled and do we really need 3 ways to spell to? Screw that. That being said I am to old and frankly really don't give a shit if what I type is spelled right or not.

English spelling has never made any sense to me either. Fortunately for us there is Spell Check which I employ regularly. At the same time it irritates the shit out of me to have to read some kind of fucked up communication full of spelling errors, incorrect word usage and incorrect sentence structure. I might not be able to spell without help, but I can damn sure put together a paragraph. I took communications in college and professional classes and even ran a department that was responsible for policy and procedure manuals for near 1000 employees. Many of the procedural documents had to be translated from Swenglish to regular English, the originals were translated from Swedish to Swinglish by some Swedish tech nerd so not their fault really.

If a comprehensible thought or argument is ascertainable, spelling and grammar errors in communications don't bother me unless they're contained within formal or professional contexts.

Sometimes they're kinda funny -- especially when the language butchers misspell things in the 'coarse' of going off on other people because they think the other people's views 'seam' ignorant.

The thing is, or at least for me, Ijust don't get it. I barely got through high school and English was my worst class. I only made it out of there because I made enough of a disruption that the teacher did not want me back again. I did ok in other classes and great in all my shop classes, math classes and photography class, but English, English was my kryptonite. That may be one reason I rejected the computer for so long. However after I got one it did help me a lot. Not that I can form full sentences or express myself very well yet, but I am getting better. To tell you the truth it bother me more when people point out others mistakes, than it does when people make mistakes.
Like I don't know I cant spell and its hard to read what I write already.

The only members I recall regularly pointing out other people's spelling and grammar mistakes during exchanges were LC and Dick; LC called me out once on a word I'd misspelled a couple of times. I haven't misspelled 'cavalry' since.

It was pretty funny to me when Dick did it because he usually made a mistake in the course of pointing out the 'seperate' mistakes made by others.

I agree HotD. Its pretty laid back here, but there are some forums/places that , WOW. Here it seams more like a family and we all take each other for who they are. We might rib each other and get on each others nerves from time to time, but in the end we remain friends.

I can relate to that ^^^^^. She got me a couple times too. She nailed me on a lot & you're, your. Holy fuck. I don't make those mistakes anymore.

Detrotian is a geographically specific language devoid of anything resembling English. It needs no spell check as it's a phonetically based language, understood by the native Detroitians and Pharmaceutical companies and its outlets.

Like HotD said it doesn't bother me unless it's in formal or professional context. If I'm writing a formal letter I make sure everything is 100% correct.

Here I don't much care. I often make mistakes that I know are wrong and for some reason I do it anyway and don't think about it until my 15 minute editing time is up. For example I'll type it's instead of its. I figure I type well enough where everyone can understand me and that's good enough for you assholes.

English was always my best class, however. I found it a hell of a lot easier than math or science.
