Oh shit. Kavanaugh is going with the disgruntled, scorched-earth, partisan conspiracy strategy.
I think that's the worst possible position he could take.
I think he's toast.

Good times.
I just wish Biggie wouldn't have begged you to dress up as Hillary Clinton. You're a good sport.
I got rather tired of being called Naughty Nancy Pelosi all night long, but at least I didn't have to wear a pant suit.
It was hot enough up in there as it was.

He's crying now, he's fucking crying. If a female judge did that they'd say she's too emotional.
...and Lindsey Graham is...weird? Off the rails? Emotional?

I find Kavanaugh very unlikable today.
It's surprising to me that he's been practicing for days on end and he still can't put on a professional but personable demeanor.
His tearful testimony in the course of serving as his own character witness is not effective, to me.

He's been groomed for the Supreme Court his whole professional life, according to uncontested reports. I think he's crying because he knows it ain't happening and he can't believe that he's being denied the dream to which he feels entitled.

Well, I found Kavanaugh to be deflective, evasive, and having a temperament unsuited to serve on the Supreme Court. His opening statement also made it clear that he's highly partisan, which defies the neutrality expected of Justices.
But, after he stopped crying and started interrupting and repeating the same talking points, I think he might have appealed to some Republicans on the fence.
I really hope he's not confirmed, but I would not bet against it.

It was unnerving to see a federal judge belligerently ranting & giving credence to conspiracy theories and blaming this circus on the Clinton's getting revenge. The weeping was equally unnerving.

He stopped just as soon as the republicans kicked the female prosecutor out of the room. She could no longer ask him scary questions and they could wipe his nose and stop the snot slinging.

Two people, one of them committed perjury today. One of them asked repeatedly for an investigation, the other wouldn't ask for one even when invited to do so.

If that's how you heard the question it's OK Why should Kavenaugh say to start an investigation, why should he be the one to do it. He is at a hearing that they are the ones that already used the FBI 6 times to screen him. Why was she looking for him to initiate anything. And finally why wait until the process was done to even ask after 6 had been done already. She was "fund raising" that's why. she wasted her time there.

Imagine you're an HR person conducting an interview at say, Boeing, and the person you're interviewing acted the way Kavanaugh did today. Would you hire his screaming, belligerant, ranting ass? Every photo I've seen of him from the hearing today showed an entitled man having a temper tantrum for not being given a job he feels is owed him.
This is an important, life-long position. If there are *any* doubts, there are literally hundreds of other candidates to review. I didn't have a problem with Gorsuch, he seems like a decent, moral man. Kavanaugh is decidedly not. This is more "fuck the libs, lets watch their heads explode" than actually caring for the welfare and safety of our country.

Sadly, 'belligerent ranter' seems to be a required job qualification under the current administration.
I agree with your perspective. There are many more qualified candidates from which to choose and I don't believe choosing the best person for the country is the top priority for the Senate majority or the White House.
However, in my opinion, the motive is much more expansive than just getting someone who's clearly partisan in order to make lib heads explode.
The GOP has been smart and effective working a long game for a long time, by whatever means necessary. It's about ideological power and influence in the long term, in my opinion.
That's the only reason the GOP and the evangelicals got behind Trump, of all people. He's appointing religious conservative judges in all of the lower courts and the Supreme Court, which affects the direction of the country for decades. Presidents and majority control of congressional houses are also important, but much more fluid and fleeting.

I don't remember the exact term used but I read an article saying there's a Catholic "mafia" trying to take over our government. That seems to be in direct opposition to the evangelical right with the same goal but in any case, religious zealots running our country makes me glad I'm getting old and won't be around for another 20 - 30 years.

Yeah, in Trump's batshit press conference yesterday, he bragged about all the judges he's pushed through in his time in office and claimed that's because Obama became complacent. The latter was, of course, just another lie.
The Republican Senate, under McConnell, stalled then blocked Obama's nominations in his second term, just like McConnell did with Obama's pick to fill Scalia's seat on the Supreme Court for over a year.
It's time for the Dems (and decent Republicans) to step the fuck up and fight back if they really care about fairness and balance. I see that starting to happen and hope it continues.
It should not be that powerful lobbies (primarily religious and corporate) can grab and maintain control of the country's future by offering large voter blocs and campaign donations to politicians, with GOP leaders changing the established rules as-needed to achieve their goals.
First step..............get the full Congress out of Republican control this year. If Kavanaugh gets confirmed after his entitled sniffling shit show today, I do believe that will significantly increase Democrat and Independent voter turn out.
