THE TRUMP PRESIDENCY

It'll be okay. I was listening to some old timers talk about what it was like back in the day, particularly what it was like during the Vietnam war. This isn't the first time our country has been so divided but it is the first time that many of us have ever seen it like this.

I recently saw a stat regarding the public's interest in politics. In recent years those with an active interest hovered around the mid-20%, now it's pushing 60%. People are engaged in what is going on and that's a good thing for our country.

Scary shit. They are now saying Putin is the most powerful man in the world. When Trump won, he won. He might be the antichrist.

I saw that too and I agree. We can't even lay claim to being the greatest nation in the world anymore.

It was said on the news last night, that the revised Obamacare to now Trumpcare, could raise the premium from $1,700 to $"14,000"! Smiley_emoticons_shocked WTF!

If that ever came to pass, there would be whites rioting in the streets, and everything on fire!

Try to keep this in perspective Cars, the premiums were through the roof this year anyway with Obamacare because the insurance companies took a heavy hit. My state is seeing 116% increase. Turns out that when people who haven't seen a Dr since the last time they got shot find out they have some serious health issues, the rates go up for everyone.

Over the passage of eight years you had a great deal to say about the Obama's and their vacations, why are you so quiet now that trump is vacationing on an almost weekly basis at the expense of the taxpayer? Also, you've been remarkably nonchalant about the cost of protecting his wife in NYC, why is that? You would have had a stroke had Obama done a fraction of what trump is doing. I feel certain of that given your general attitude regarding that President and his family.

signed a bill nullifying an Obama-era rule aimed at blocking gun sales to people found to be mentally ill.

signed House Joint Resolution 38, which scraps an Obama administration environmental rule to protect waterways from coal mining waste. Trump's administration said the rule puts mining companies at a competitive disadvantage.

signed House Joint Resolution 41, which wipes away a federal rule that requires energy companies to disclose royalties and government payments. The rule was imposed by the Obama administration last year as a transparency measure. Trump's government said it puts U.S. energy companies at a disadvantage.

signed an executive order to ease U.S. fiscal regulations in the Dodd–Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act of 2010 -- which was a response to the financial crisis and Great Recession that Trump's administration called "overreaching."

ordered the Labor Department to review a rule from former President Barack Obama requiring financial managers to act in their clients' best interests when handling retirement accounts. The department will determine whether such a mandate is necessary.

reorganized the council, adding his chief strategist, Steve Bannon. The council is a panel of officials, most of them Cabinet level, who work with the president to determine the best course of action on security issues.

President Trump's team seems to be trying to push the fallback from the proposed American Health Care Act onto Paul Ryan and Congress.

Trump's either gonna have to split with them on the proposal which doesn't specify costs, doesn't specify if/how premiums will be reduced, and is estimated to leave 24 million Americans uninsured within a decade (particularly those in rural states and the elderly). Or, he's gonna have to convince a whole lot of conservative elected officials and some Democrats to support the proposal.

Right now, the proposal is nowhere near what Trump promised and the clock is ticking. Ryan wants to push it through before mid-term elections and worry about the details later, and Trump promised an immediate repeal and replace. I think the Town Hall protests are only gonna grow. Premiums were increasing before Obamacare was passed and Medicaid (which would be cut under the new proposal) expansion has helped a lot of American citizens.

An independent think tank, The Commonwealth Fund, published a study showing that fewer people are skipping medical care because of cost ― most likely because, thanks to the health care law, so many more people have health insurance. http://www.commonwealthfund.org/

Standard and Poor’s Global Ratings reported that insurers selling Obamacare plans are seeing better financial results this year, suggesting that premiums are finally coming into line with the actual medical expenses of their customers ― and that this year’s big rate hikes may be a “one-time pricing correction.” http://www.cnbc.com/2016/12/22/insurers-...-year.html

Tricky shit which will impact the majority of Americans. Breitbart is busy putting it all in Ryan's lap to cover Trump's ass; it's not. It's on President Trump to carry through on his promise of a beautiful, more affordable and accessible health care plan for everyone.

I don't see that happening...thank God!

I haven't taken the time to verify this (there is just so fucking much to fact-check on an almost daily basis) but I read that a reason that the ACA failed in some places is because those Republican run states refused to expand Medicare. If that's the case (spiteful bitches) that's on them.

Man, I also have a lot to say about these Town Halls or lack of them as the case may be too. 39

Did Oprah just say that? Remember, anything the government does calling it help is always the opposite. No matter the political persuasion.

Personally, I think President Trump and/or his team leaked the 2005 return to distract from the wire-tapping idiocy, the Russia investigations, and the poor reviews of the new health care proposal.

Whether that's true or not, I don't think the release hurts Trump. He paid 24% and $38 million in taxes (after writing off $100 million in losses) that particular year.

So yeah, I agree.........back to the real issues.

President Trump really ought to listen to scientists and his Secretary of Defense, James Mattis, and not just big oil and coal executives when it comes to the environment.

Snip:
Secretary of Defense James Mattis has asserted that climate change is real, and a threat to American interests abroad and the Pentagon’s assets everywhere, a position that appears at odds with the views of the president who appointed him and many in the administration in which he serves.

In unpublished written testimony provided to the Senate Armed Services Committee after his confirmation hearing in January, Mattis said it was incumbent on the U.S. military to consider how changes like open-water routes in the thawing Arctic and drought in global trouble spots can pose challenges for troops and defense planners. He also stressed this is a real-time issue, not some distant what-if.

“Climate change is impacting stability in areas of the world where our troops are operating today,” Mattis said in written answers to questions posed after the public hearing by Democratic members of the committee. “It is appropriate for the Combatant Commands to incorporate drivers of instability that impact the security environment in their areas into their planning.”

Mattis has long espoused the position that the armed forces, for a host of reasons, need to cut dependence on fossil fuels and explore renewable energy where it makes sense. He had also, as commander of the U.S. Joint Forces Command in 2010, signed off on the Joint Operating Environment, which lists climate change as one of the security threats the military expected to confront over the next 25 years.

When (if) we ever see Trump's full tax returns and where his investments/interests lie, that will be worth more scrutiny, in my opinion. That's always been the concern for me.

I think the 2005 release is newsworthy, but it doesn't distract me from the more pressing matters, of course.

I don't know who/how that particular year got leaked, it just seems like one of the dump and distract strategies often used by the Trump administration. Maybe it's not........maybe we'll learn one way or the other down the line.
