The COVID relief/stimulus legislation involves plans, budgets and details for 50 states, dozens of government agencies, multiple medical and social agencies, etc...  It's a massive endeavor.

I'm interested in Pelosi's strategy of trying to get Trump to put money where his mouth is.  I don't view political negotiations and back-and-forths as the problem with this country (they're an essential part of the process), and they're highly relevant to the political forum here at Mock.

Anyway.......in this case, Pelosi wants the same thing as Trump says he wants, namely $2,000 per person in individuals payouts instead of the $600 Trump's own party stood firm on.  

And, if Trump can't get Republican congresspersons to agree to it (it's looking like they won't), she wants to minimize the chances of the bill getting vetoed, thus leaving Americans in need with nothing until Biden takes over.

I don't see how Trump's threat to veto the COVID bill hurts Democrats in any way.  It was a gift to them -- Trump contradicted his party's representatives and supported the Democrats' original request.

Last year I worked in Drug and Rehab with the Salvation Army. I think we could both agree that we are glad it is not us that is doing that brain melting substance. People who are addicted to that stuff are on a terrible road that is hard to come back from.

I am not saying they should be given a pass, because you don't want to be an enabler.

People who are addicted are sick and it is a medical and psychiatric issue, which needs support, therapy and active participation in the recovery process. It's sad, many don't make it, and their lives are dragged through the mud.

We can't judge the guy we don't have all the details. I have seen the picture you are talking about, and it may well be he is off his face with that, but certainly he could use the excuse, there was nothing in it, or it was just a fun picture we took, there are all sorts of excuses that could be used.

Bottom line, addiction is a disease, it needs a lifelong commitment to change, and chances of relapse are very high, to those very committed, it can take several times of in and out of rehab before it finally starts to click.
