What has changed in our society that makes a young person grab a gun and go shoot up a school or grown men target other adults. Something has changed out there
Often when I hear people exclaim "this never happened when I was a kid", I hears others respond with, "we just didn't hear about it then. There was no internet or 24⁄7 news". I don't buy that any more. I gave it some weight in the beginning but I no longer do.

I believe that it seems a lot of crimes are happening more now because we hear about them more now; instant access across infinite media sources anywhere in the country. Even when crime rates fall, many people still think crime is increasing because they're always hearing about it these days.
However, the mass shootings, specifically, in this country are becoming more and more frequent. That's a fact.
I don't have the answer as to why that is, but I know we can't just sit back and let it become normal and expected.
Biggie has shared his belief that violent video games play a role several times. Gunnar said the media exposure given to shooters by some of the media and Facebook plays a role. I've heard a lot of people opine that bad parenting, more untreated mental illness, and ease of access to military-style firearms and magazines all play a role.
I think all of those opinions probably have a basis in fact and it's a combination of factors.

Having no regard for life scares me a little if I think about it too hard. It's freaky to know there are those who wouldn't hesitate to kill someone/s. Dead is dead. Forever. I don't even like killing bugs unless they're monster spiders. I don't want the kind of power that comes with determining life or death.

Well they dope up everyone on meds for one thing. Oh your kid has ADHD or you're depressed, well take this drug. We don't know how it will work, but we'll try a few different ones to see how it goes.
Also kids have social media now, back when I was a kid you really didn't hear about anything unless you paid attention to the news or picked up a newspaper. Most kids don't do that, but with social media now everyone wants to be a copy cat.
I've heard people say that everyone in Switzerland carries guns and the crime rate is low, well it's a completely different society and culture. You can't even compare it to America.
