I start a new job tomorrow
#1
I got a lay off notice 2 weeks ago from my job with the construction company. I already start with a new job-much less pay but it should be fun, in fact I am afraid it will be so much fun that I won't want to leave it for a higher paying job with benefits. We will see.
I will work 10 hour days, so 4 days on 3 days off.

I have applications and resumes turned in to city, federal and county jobs so I am hoping for those long term.

Can't fall asleep yet so I am organizing everything and re-arranging furniture, thought I would stop in here and tell you my news.

I may have overestimated this joy.
I feel like the less people make-the harder they are working.
Like my last job I was making way more and worked a lot less.

That is really good news.
The other company may pay more but they don't value you.
This new job is either good or bad. Pay is only one factor

Yeah, it is such BS. LOL.
With my severence I have rent paid through July and 12 of August!
Now I just have to work on finding a real job or getting back into management somehow.

I guess I got spoiled in my first job as an adult-I was at a place where they actually had training. I just thought that was the way this worked. Now days they just throw you in and say, "Figure it out" and meanwhile they are watching and snickering in the background.

Find what you do well and do that well.

When I started in my company, I was useless. I thought with exposure I would dramatically improve and it was not the case. I was honestly barely good enough and popular enough to save me from being disciplined and fired. I hated it. Then they introduced a new and emerging platform which for some reason I just got. I made myself the go-to person in the team about THAT product. I was still pretty retarded in everything else but that product I was king (their nickname not mine).

When they product became big and a team had to be formed around that, I was a natural fit for it. I crafted my role around it.

If you can do the same I recommend it. Do some aspect of your role better than anyone and then make yourself the person everyone looks to when they think of it.

I guess that's what they do at the coffee bar at the grocery store here, just throw them out to the lions with no training. Yesterday I ordered my daughter a vanilla frappe and a double espresso for me. The girl didn't know how to make either one and the cashier was looking through a book for the prices when the prices are on the board behind her. What a couple tards, it took a half hour to get a shot of espresso and a smoothie.

And it was the third time I've ordered espresso somewhere and the dumbass asked me what size. What do mean what size, it comes in a little shot cup. There are no small, medium or large. You think I want a tall cup of espresso because I'm trying to give myself a heart attack.

I would have walked out
Don't mess with my coffee!
I made the mistake of ordering a mocha in a small coastal town, so excited that I could even get one-back in the early days of espresso machines.
The lady said, "Mocha...is that with chocolate?" I should have walked out. I said, "Yes" and continued to walk around the store to wait for my drink. That thing tasted sooo bad.

Thanks for the advice Fry Guy. I think I will and can work on doing that. Although it didn't help in my last job unfortunately. : ( I'm not against going back to school for more training or classes at this point if I need to.
I am applying for another city clerk position-and I talked to our city clerk and she said even though they don't say it on the job description-they are looking for some classes in public records, so there is that.

I love the job. It is a lot of fun. I am so glad to be a part of the company.

That being said-I am still applying for jobs. I heard back from a city job-they said no. I am kind of glad-it would have meant moving.
I also heard back from one of the dams. I didn't get the dam job! Smiley_emoticons_biggrin
But I just heard back from a park ranger position-I qualify for it and so they are passing on my info to the hiring department. During this time an admin job became available in the same industy and I want that more than the park ranger job, so I am applying for that.
HOWEVER-it is about 40 miles away in the middle of nowhere. I took a road trip yesterday to check it out. I don't want to move to that town, I would definitely commute.
I am pretty sure I am going to need a job by Sept since my current one will be seasonal only-but I am hoping I can still do some hours here and there if I do have another job.
