Democrats block Coronovirus bill
#21
And so another Democrat defaults to name calling. Typical reaction from the party of hate. It's the usual defense strategy.

So I guess the problem Dems have with the Pub strategy is the bailout of corporate offices. The problem with Dem legislation is Solar and climate change crap they want put in.

Why not just use it to pay for Insurance, pay, sick time and businesses having to still pay taxes after being forcibly shut down.

Both sides are adding pork when Pork should be restricted and 2 Trillion will become 1 Trillion.

That's a ton of money! 1000 million to make 1 billion and 1000 billion to make 1 Trillion.
Think about that people!

Lotsa  Bullshit with this thing. I hope both sides put away their pipe dreams and just do their jobs.

where do you think those individuals are going to spend their "relief" money?    Why, the big corporations of course.   Most small businesses are already shut down, so they won't see any of it,  the big corps will be raking all that relief money in, as it gets spent by the individual.

In your scenario, the big corporations will have provided goods and services and incurred costs in the process of earning revenue, which is simply market capitalism at work and no different than in times of non-crisis.

Individual and business consumers choosing to spend some of the relief money that they've been provided directly by the government to purchase products from big corporations would not be a problem.

What would be a problem, in my opinion, is instead giving a huge chunk of the national economic relief/rescue funding to big corporations with the expectation that it would trickle down to those who need it.  That has not been the case in the past.

The government should put the bulk of the relief money directly in the hands of individuals / small businesses / consumers who need it.  If large corporate bail-outs are necessary too, so be it.

But, there ought to be stipulations that tax-payer funded corporate bail-outs be transparent and prohibited from being used for executive bonuses and stock buy-backs.  From what I've read, those such details and stipulations are part of what's being debated and negotiated by Congresspersons now.

When trump was asked about the provision in the relief package that allows the Treasury (Steve Mnuchin) to give out the money as he sees fit, trump said, "Look, I'll be the oversight. I'll be the oversight". That's a direct quote, people. trump will be the oversight on how the money is spent. Isn't that reassuring?

Yeah very reassuring. 99% of the money to bail out Trump owned properties, 1% to bail out the American people.

Many small businesses have been closed by their state. Restaurants, and a few others. They are still getting tax bills, mortgage bills and workman's comp bills hopefully this stimulus goes to them. Individuals that are out of work because it was closed down should also get something 60% of their pay maybe. The ones that are on welfare and are getting food stamps should already be taken care of. That in itself is a lot of money and that is where it should go not Solar power companies that need loans nor corporations that are losing revenue. I say take care of the workers and all else can wait until more testing is done (the numbers should rise from that) and more is done towards a vaccine and providing hospitals with what they need for already confirmed cases.

This is affecting older people more than young people and many have already had it and are recovering. I have faith and things will get back to normal at some point.

Zip it Biggie.  Clang is very clearly far from retarded.

The sure sign of retardation = inability to avoid unintended irony whilst chastising or trolling others.

I’d bet up to a quarter that Clang knows, unlike yourself, that The Police song is titled, “Every Breath You Take”, whereas the Hollies song is titled, "All I Need Is the Air that I Breathe”.

The two trillion dollar coronavirus aid/relief negotiations are reportedly being finalized today.

Hoping the bill passes both the Senate and the House by tomorrow, and that President Trump just signs off on it.

Here are some of the provisions included in the latest draft.

Big Businesses
About $500 billion can be used to back loans and assistance to companies, as well as state and local governments.

Airlines
$25 billion in strings-attached grants and $25 billion in loans to passenger carriers, $3 billion to airline contractors providing ground staff such as caterers, while cargo haulers would see $4 billion in grants.

Small Businesses
More than $350 billion to aid small businesses.

Restrictions on Business Aid
Any company receiving a government loan would be subject to a ban on stock buybacks through the term of the loan plus one additional year. They also would have to limit executive bonuses and take steps to protect workers.

Hospitals
A $150 billion boost for hospitals and other health-care providers for equipment and supplies.

Individuals
Direct payments to lower- and middle-income Americans of $1,200 for each adult, as well as $500 for each child. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said checks would be cut April 6.

Unemployed
Unemployment insurance extension to four months, bolstered by $600 weekly. Eligibility would be expanded to cover more workers.

Transparency
The Treasury Department would have to disclose the terms of loans or other aid to companies, and a new Treasury inspector general would oversee the lending program. Democrats won language that would bar any business owned by President Donald Trump or his family from getting loans from Treasury. Businesses owned by members of Congress, heads of executive departments and Vice President Mike Pence also would be blocked.

Elections
States get $400 million in election assistance for 2020 voting amid the coronavirus pandemic, allowing them to increase the ability to vote by mail, expand early voting and online registration.
