A little background--the discussion was about candidates & earning your vote. The person said "I have conditions & they are the bare minimum that are acceptable and then went on to list them. I won't do them all, just the ones that made my jaw drop.
Right off the bat--living should be free.
Universal clothing credits
Free water
Free energy
Free telecommunications
Free public transit
$600/18 hr. week
I told him that I am a tree huggin' Liberal and I thought his list was ridiculous.
I'm all for raising people up, helping them, treating them fairly, but all that free, free, free...good lord! I wanted to respond that I like Capitalism too, but I was blocked. And why do people do that, run their mouth and then close the door. Fricken pansyass.

Sounds almost like something out of Star Trek.

All that free, free, free is bad for the soul! No sense of accomplishment!

...and I really don't understand the student loan forgiveness stuff. Don't these people sign contracts agreeing to terms? I'm not being snarky, I want to understand.

I just...I just am amazed. Contracts are legal documents that must be read in their entirety.
Thanks, Clangy, that sure explains a lot.

This type of thinking should be shunned if not we are all in for a world of hurt.

I agree and whenever I comment on it people act like I'm the asshole.

This shit is part of the political divide. YOU ARE BATSHIT CRAZY around any mention of trump, yet he represents the oposite of the free shit that you listed. You can't have it both ways...

That's nothing more than a myth. He's A-OK with welfare for the rich.

I don't like the mentality of free stuff, handouts etc etc
We have some free transit around here, which I think is nice. They were doing it during covid and kept it going for a while.
I wish healthcare would either be free-or be much more affordable than it is now-and not linked to a person's career or job. Many people stay in crappy jobs or jobs they don't enjoy only because of healthcare being provided.
Student loan forgiveness: I paid my loans off. But I don't care if others get thiers forgiven. I don't understand where this talk came from either-but it sort of feels shitty to hold it out there for people and then to take it away.
Maybe student loans and school prices got too high and were ridiculous-but has that improved? So that is confusing to me.

In Mass they are voting on licenses for Immigrants. I'm not sure if they even have birth certificates like every one else has to have.
