Why do people always say money can't buy happiness? Of course it can't in the case of tragedy, but as far as everyday living goes I'd rather have money than be poor. I grew up poor, having money is way more fun.

I'm not super rich but I'm thankful I have money for both my needs and wants......friends, family, cigars, POS car, toys/collectibles, lady clothes,etc.....I can have it all!

If money can buy happiness, how much does it cost? Let me know if you see a good sale.

We got the big block of government cheese, and LOVED it. Also stood in line to get food from the church, my dad redeemed cans to get cigarettes but we always had a roof over our head.

It's the little things in life that matter most.

I doubt if she really said that.

Alpha and omega, and the paths between, innumerable. There is no "one true way". In the final analysis, it really is all good.
In the immortal words of Louis Armstrong, if more people loved each other, more problems would get solved. I don't think truth gets much deeper than that.

Since it's Saturday I'd say about $2000.00 for a caviar and champagne brunch for the whole family. That brings me more happiness than going to Denny's. Or even worse, eating cereal with powered milk that I got from the church pantry and then having to go to work at Denny's. I've done all of those things, the caviar brunch wins hands down.

And I thought I was being fancy when I spent $90 for a duck breast dinner or $25 for steak and frites, or $40 for an all you can eat sushi buffet. Or spending $65 for 2 huge burritos and 2 margaritas. My happiness is spending over $200 on weed and weed products(plus $70 admission)at Cannastock, the $100's? $1,000's I spent on cigars, lady clothes, and toys/collectibles over the last few years.

Some people don't even like caviar, but I love it. Not the orange eggs they put on top of sushi rolls, I'm talking about the good stuff. In this case money can buy you happiness.

It was a last minute decision to watch the fireworks at the local mountain community, everything was booked except the $1200 a night place...

Material quality of life is important, obviously, but how much of a factor is that re baseline happiness? Up to a certain point it's very important, but beyond that it's marginal, at best, because hedonistic stimuli, such as caviar and champagne brunches, produce diminishing returns as the activity is repeated, leaving the baseline unaltered; hence the saying, "you can't buy happiness". Can a person's baseline be substantially increased? Absolutely, but not as a result of increased pleasure, because pleasure is transitory. Even if you have the financial wherewithal to constantly experience pleasure, your baseline is not going to increase; quite the contrary, in fact, it will collapse because a lifestyle that consists of constant pleasure leads to madness: no matter how much you have, it's never enough, and once you cross the line into OCD you're trapped. Yes, you can escape, but that's a very slow and painful process. This doesn't negate what you're saying, I'm just pointing out that pleasure and happiness are not one and the same.
