The 17" widescreen and the harmon kardon stereo might be a nice option; but this product isnot durable like some other brands, and it seems like they have major issues far more often than is reasonable. I think the hard drive once again is corrupt, this time just because I installed the trial version of Adobe Acrobat 9.0 Pro. I'm just trying to get that POS up long enough to offload everything to network storage; then I think I am done with Toshiba and just going to live on this 15" company Dell.

I've had a Toshiba Satellite M35Xsomelongfuckingnumber for a good five years now. It has survived viruses, trojans, and me beating the shit out of it when I'm mad. And yet this thing still keeps on chugging along.
I'd say they're pretty damned durable.

Generally we have used Dell for all of our company computers and laptops. They have held up well to INCREDIBLE amount of use. All of our employees work all day and night on the units and we have had little to no problems.
Also, I highly (HIGHLY) recommend paying for the 3 year gold everything service contract. It replaces anything, for any reason. I spilled a drink on my keyboard. computer still worked fine, but keyboard all messed up - they sent me a new keyboard. A power cord stopped working for another person, new one overnighted to us the next day. One of our employees dropped his computer off a table a year or so ago, cracked the screen, broke the casing and generally messed the system up - they shipped an entire new laptop that week. It is worth the expense to have the security for the 3 years.
My laptop is a Dell Latitute D810. It is a widescreen business class laptop that is almost 4 years old now and still runs like a rocket ship. Has windows XP professional and 2 gigs of RAM and it moves as fast as the brand new lap tops we have. Literally the same speed and this includes when we have multiple programs open, including big ones like Photoshop CS3 or Acrobat, etc.
Finally - you always get a person at Dell when you call them and I like that. An actual real person to talk to if needed.

I just got my son a Toshiba for his birthday. It was fairly inexpensive and since he is only 12 and I didn't want to spend a lot and it was a good deal. So far it has been fine.
I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 and I love it. I too get freaked out by the web cam Duch. My work laptop is an HP and I don't really like it all that much. The keyboard is too flat. I like Dell products. All my own computers have been Dell wth the exception of the one I bought my son. I will upgrade him to a Dell in a few years if he proves to be responsible with the one he has now. :;beat::

This company Dell is a tank, to be sure. The Toshiba keeps breaking, as did the Toshiba I had before that. The Toshiba warranty center in Atlanta recommended that I switch from a Satellite to some other rugged product they make. As we speak; the toshiba is back up and working thanks to vista restore points, but I am doing a full backup of all 320 gig. I remain dissapointed in the Toshiba, and next time I buy a home notebook I will just go with Dell.

That would be a nice product that you could put on the plane every week.

I'd say they're pretty damned durable. Me too. Thing is, the fan shit the bed. Took it into Best Buy, where I bought it, and the geeks there said "we don't do the fans here, we will hve to send it out." That was 3 weeks ago, still have not heard back from them.
