I think that it should exist in cases of capital murder convictions. I also feel that the appeal process should be fine tuned to be more reasonable from a cost perspective. I have read in multiple articles that it is actually less of a burden on taxpayers for someone to have life in prison than to actually be issued the death penalty.

I further believe that the death penalty should also be given for incest, pedophilia, and repeat offenses of spouse abuse where the violent acts are shocking to the community, which I do believe is not a very main-stream view among voters in America.

The death penalty should be a deterrent. Until it is broadcast nationally it will not be effective. If people do not see the results that happen when a brutal unthinking murderer is put to the axe they will not be deterred. With DNA what it is today there should be no fine line of the accused guilt or innocence. Only the circumstances should be the deciding factor to live or die.

I think the death penalty should exist even if it does not statistically prove itself out to be a deterrant. I just think if someone can NEVER be an asset to society at large it makes no sense for them to exist anymore.

I think the victims family should be able to choose the punishment. I'm also for cruel and unusual punishment for anyone that hurts a child or animal. Thats never going to happen though, so I think life in prison and karma is more suitable than the death penalty.

As long as guilt is 100% assured and certain I am for the return of death by hanging in the UK for the most heinous of crimes, murder, armed robbery, serious sexual offences and multiple offenders.

The death penalty is not a deterrent but it does guarantee that the offender in question will definitely not re-offend that's why I am a supporter of it. .

Scenario: Man rapes and kills a 10 year old child. The parents, Born Again Christians, pray to Jeebus about their anger and pain, and ask God to help them overcome it. A month later, they are on TV telling the media they forgive the scumbag and are mourning their loss. The man does 20 years because the family didn't want the death penalty. He gets out 20 years later, and within 3 weeks he has raped and killed two more children. Had the first family demanded the death penalty, the two other innocent children are here today.

Karma is NOT a reality. If it was, people like Hitler, Stalin, Saddam, and Slobodan Milosovic would have "gotten theirs" long before they killed as many as they did.

Agreed, karma is a concept that has no place in real life, its comforting to the retarded but is ultimately false.
Scoundrels are made kings everyday whilst heroes are buried in unmarked graves, karma is bullplop.

I Think cruel and unusual punishment is the only punishment fit for someone who rapes or murders. Thats not the case though, so I meant that the victims family should be able to choose between lethal injection and life without parole. Life without the possibility ofparole would accomplish the same thing as death by keeping society free from the violent criminal. It would also ensure that everyday of the criminals life will be a miserable existence either in protective custody or being beaten or shanked by other inmates. I'm not sure which is worse, that or being euthanized like a beloved pet.

LWOP is only so good. if they are alive they can kill others. there are criteria for DP, heinous and aggravated.

victims' families are allowed a victim-impact statement in court. does it sway the judge? i doubt it. the judge has to decide if the crime is worthy of death. then we wait 15 years for the sentence to be imposed. that is the true crime. yes, give them an appeal. in olden days people were wrongfully executed. but now we have DNA and other proofs.

mark schwab...murdered a beautiful little boy in cocoa beach. finally executed. danny rolling...butchered 5 college students. beheaded one girl. finally executed. but it took years! fucking double-tap them when the trial is over.

Only our way of dispensing justice is more fun; not hindered by all those pesky laws about over-zealous actions or brutality. Definitely more fun. ::sly::

You must not understand how prison works. Every day you are still alive in prison is another day a judge can be bribed, an escape can happen, or a governor can give someone a pardon. If they did it, fry them. Then there is no chance of them getting out.
