Okay, I was going to make a smart ass remark like ::aww::but seriously Frank, I love me some horror/monster moviesbut I think thatthe Underworld series quicklywent down the drain. The first one was a lot of flash and hot Kate Beckinsale, the second one was complete gibberish and I can't imagine what they can possibly do with the third. Sort of like the Blade series... it started out really sort of interestingly and I like Wesley Snipes, but he ended up a bland automaton by the third movieand the plot was complete nonsense.

I'd like to see one of these movies that actually has a little thought involved. I've gotten past the special effects magic razzle dazzle and I want a little MEAT to my monsters. The worst squander of talent and money was that shitty Van Helsing atrocity. Hugh Jackman and Kate Beckinsale and the only memorable thing was the flying harpies/vampire bitches. Ms Beckinsale's a pretty good actress but you wouldn't know it by the awful movie choices she's made lately.

Not quite in the same vein (yuck yuck) but those two 'magician' movies were thought provoking and had interesting plots. More Hugh Jackman, this time with Christian Bale and Michael Caine, in The Prestige and The Illusionist with Edward Norton and Paul Giamatti. Neither one was perfect, but at least the films weren't filled with a lot of special effects flash and bang with no substance.

Anyway, I didn't mean to go on a rant, but this genre has SOmany possibilitiesand I feel that Hollywood, etc aren't exploring it to it's full potential. Nothing is preventing them from making an intelligent horror movie... not everyone in the audience is a brain dead idiot that sits and wallows in their owndrool during a viewing, for god's sake. I want special effects AND good acting AND a plot that isn't derivative of 20 other movies before it.

I agree with you about Van Helsing, it was a load of overblown CGI wank.

LMPP, I think I just enjoy the subject matter enough to compensate for much of the other stuff. For example, I REALLY enjoyed ALL of the Blade movies. I loved those crack vamps that preyed on the normal vampires. In Underworld, I just enjoy things like how that head vampire acts and I guess I find it refreshing for it be about vampires vs werewolves instead of the typical people trying to put steaks in the heart of vampires. I do agree, though, that the Underworld movies are a notch down from the A+ category ... there could be less glitz and a cooler level of substance for my tastes ... but I am forgiving enough to still really enjoy them. I also enjoyed Van Helsing a lot.

This all reminds me of a book series by Laurell K. Hamilton that started out pretty good (if sort of smutty) and has now progressed to porn. The protagonist is a vampire hunter/raiser of the dead/detective human female that is apparently completely irresistable to every and all men... vampire, shape changer, etc. The world the author created is really fun and interesting but the bitch ended up having her character fucking everything with a dick. I actually got to the point where I threw one of her books across the room because she twisted the plot so badly just so she could get Anita into another close encounter.

My point is... this series of books and a lot of these series of movies pander to the lowest common denominator. I wish just for once, we the public would be given a little more credit for our intelligence level. It seems like movies in general these days are aimed at 15 year old boys. :?

Sorry Frank, I'm not calling YOU an arrested adolescent with bad taste in movies... that was a general statement about the American populace.

Have you ever seen "Idiocracy"? It shows a future America that's so dumbed down that there's a popular TV show called "Ass" that features various ass injuries. We're not far from that vision.

For some reason, I just thought that I'd like to pour oil all over you, then spank you while watching the second Blade. Keep your glasses on.

very cool. I enjoy this series a lot.
though because this is before her in the story line. I bet/imagine that this movie will end right when Lucien kills here family and takes her under his wing, which leads to the movies we have already seen.
The trailer looks good.

I love all the movies that Poopy named and I think I agree with MF's response a little bit. The only thing is, I am an extreme fan of scifi ANYTHING. So when I watch a movie in that genre I immediately know if it is going to
 • have me on the edge of my seat
 • make me wonder what it's like to pilot a starship
 • allow me time to go cook a full course meal while listening ...sort of
 • or make me say..."I can make a better animation than that!"
Point is, I always find some interest in them no matter how good or bad they are generally viewed as being.

::dunno::

I wouldn't call myself a Trekkie, but I've seen all the movies and enjoyed most of them (that very first one sucked dead Frank dick though.)

Have you ever seen Firefly and the follow-up movie Serenity? Pretty damn good! I LOVE sci fi.

Iam more of a Star Wars man myself (the original trilogy not the prequel trilogy wank) but I have a passing interest in Star Trek.

I love the original series, mainly because of this guy..............
