Being from the Mid-West...........the prices on those homes would be about $200,000 in my area.

west palm is home to most of the employees of the wealthy palm beach types across the intracoastal bridge. i am sure there are lots of good hard-working decent people there too. as well as the druggies.

as for paloma, i had googled that also because i never heard of a town called paloma beach. there are MANY big communities like that in florida.that trendstarted with palm coast north of daytona. pretty costly homes. that's where i bought my first florida house. it was a safe clean place to raise my son. about ²⁄₃ old people, ¹⁄₃ families with kids, good schools.

these big communities are rather sterile, not much character of their own. all depends what you want.

I agree with JB, I love the windows wide open and cool crisp air. I picked the wrong place to live because I've never been able to stand the heat and humidity either. My electric bill runs about $900 a month during the summerbecause I keep the AC set at 69.

900.00 per month is crazy. Put is some trol-temp zoning dampers that shut down rooms that are not used during the day. They are about 20-30.00 each and put heavy cyrtains on the South wall facing windows. Switch to light fabric in the winter. Put in a timer that will run during off-peak times at night and after 5pm during the week. Have shut-offs for AC before 7AM.

I run AC and a pool filter and a freezer and use propane for my dryer. My electric bill has never been higher than 120.00 per month in years. Set your AC unit @ 74 rather than 69 (my favorite number by the way) and replace your filters 3 times a year not twice. Use a fast dry coil cleaner twice a year to clean out the condenser and if you have windows in the cellar use that crazy white snow flake spray on them it will reflect the heat and in the winter use hay on the north north-east side ( for the people from NE) Take the hay in the spring and use it as mulch or cover , that will keep the weeds out the garden.

Caulk and paint the windows every fall, and seal all doors with sticky-back 1/4" neo-prene rolls. I have a 3 bedroom 2 bath home . 900.00 per month would send me in a tizzy,how the Fuck do you do that?

It's like paying a mortgage just so I don't have to sweat to death, it's ridiculous. My attic must not be insulated enough or something because I don't know anyone who has a $900 electric bill every month.

Hell yeah poor/no attic insulation can hurt ... I am wondering if you either have a BIG house, or the system just isn't venting enough places, or the right places, to get the air cool enough by the thermostat, making the unit work harder to achieve that temperature by the thermostat. Another factor can be the cost of electricity by you.

I don't live in a mansion so thats not the problem lol. I'm going to call the electric company and see if they can figure out whats happening. I think they'll come and do anevaluation for free.

i NEVER paid anything close to $900. a month running A/C ²⁴⁄₇ set on 'meat locker'! and i had a big house and ran a pool filter also.

FPL will do a free energy check/diagnosis, i hope you'll call them. something is very wrong with that number. ::blink::

My husband insists we are moving to Florida in 2 years after his son graduates. I'm not liking that idea at all. I've only been to Florida once a few years back. Stayed at South Beach for a few days on our way to Jamaica. I fucking hated it and was scared to death to leave the hotel room by myself.

South beach is a shit hole except for some really good restaurants. We couldn't even find a decent hotel room when we were there. The hotels wereall run down and the one that we finallydid find thatwas half way decent turned out to be haunted. I never even believed in ghosts untill we stayed at that weird fucking place lol.

Good idea ... something is VERY wrong, assuming you don't have extremely high electricity rates in your area for some reason. Look in your attic, you should see insulation on/in all the flooring. Do you have the sun beaming in the windows? That can cause a big burden as well.

We're power pigs in an all electric home that sits on the highest point of the valley. The wind never stops and the sun hits us all but the first 2 hours of the day.

The AC runs ²⁴⁄₇ from late May till usually mid Sept set on fucking brrrrrr and the baseboard heat is set at 75 during the frozen months.

We have a 3 computers running for about 19 hours a day and 3 TV's that at any time all could be on.

*edit* I also play in a band and practices are in my home including using the full PA system which will cave your ribs in outdoors at a range of 100 feet.

My BIGGEST bill ever was $385.00.

There's damn sure something wrong with your bill or you have a neighbor tapping your line and getting away scott free.

I agree with LKTraz, something is radically wrong or different about your basic set up if you pay that much in electricity. Also, 69 is a very low setting, I feel. That alone, instead of going 71 or 72 could be the source of at least part of your problem. I know my system would have to work hard constantly to maintain 69 when it is real hot outside. Electricity can cost more on a progressive scale. You might be dipping into a very expensive level of use.
