Guilt is self induced. Seriously, you're complaining about her spending $1,000 on you one year?

Jeez sounds like my Granny who died earlier this year, she had a good heart but always wanted to be centre of attention and had to have things her way, and boy she knew how to lay on a guilt trip! I've felt sorry for my mother in the past running around after her like a slave, I think she breathed a huge sigh of relief when she got put into a private care home for her own safety. Even though she was suffering from dementia she was still causing trouble with the other residents and guilt tripping my mother on the phone constantly. I was sad to see her die, but I haven't cried yet, for every positive thing she did for me there was always a negative to cancel it out. I will never forgive her for ruining a family holiday in Greece years ago, my parents paid for it, three weeks touring greece and the greek islands first class cost thousands of pounds, and on the first day she deliberately fell out with my grandad and she refused to speak to anybody for the rest of the holiday creating a terrible atmosphere for three fucking weeks.

I'm saying she knows how to manipulate to get her ways. It was an example of the many ways she thinks she gets over on us. I felt bad because we didn't truly go away but pretended to instead. OP, me and my two brothers are ALL the family she has left. Although she's obnoxious and a brat, I wouldn't leave her alone or totally ignore her. I'm not cold like that. But I'd rather do things on my terms instead of her bullshit preventative manipulation. Believe me, she's been called on this shit time and again and she will just turn around and insist conversations of the like were never had. She's been like this all her life. She's more like OP's grandmother. She'll do fucked up shit to get her way because she's completely inflexible and then the next minute she's sweet as pie. If we had more family to be around and together with, it would be easier to tell her to fuck off for things she manipulates but I just can't be that heartless.

I must be completely heartless then because shit like that makes me get even more obstinate and I'll flat-out refuse to perform like a marionette. My mom had the whole Catholic guilt-trip act perfected and it just doesn't work on me anymore.

I have always wondered how do you people with your heads up your ass breath? I just figured it was through the belly button but since i have you here can you tell me for sure how you do it?

I used to dread going on holiday with my granny when I was a kid, when we first arrived at the hotel, apartment whatever she would insist in cleaning the rooms from top to bottom pissing off the cleaning staff on the first day. Then we had the annual humiliation fest of mealtime, my granny insisted on having meals made individually for her, "I don't want any oil or have it cooked in any oil" in the mediterranean for fucks sake! So having evening meals in the various 4 & 5 star hotels was a daily ordeal with the whole of the rest of the dining room whispering and pointing at us every night. She would insist on wearing ridiculously garish, hideous clothes on holiday so bad she would be openly ridiculed in the street by locals and other tourists as I trailed back 20 paces behind her. My grandfather would get his head chewed off if he even glanced at another woman, you wouldn't speak to fucking dog how she spoke to my grandad how he never lost his temper and struck her is nothing short of a miracle. Christmas, birthdays and any family occassion seemed to revolve around whether she was in a good mood or not which was very often not the case. While once dressing a wound on my back she actually made it worse and when I complained she ended up accusing me of being personally responsible for the death of one of her brothers in a motorbike accident a few years previous. I feel not one ounce of guilt when I say I am partly glad she is no longer around torturing my mother.

It's true then, insanity DOES run in the family.
Seriously though, if these were 5 star accommodations, they should've been happy and eager to prepare her food any way she wanted it.

Seriously NOTHING was suitable, every single meal was a performance I lost count of the number of waiters, waitresses, and maitre d's she had literally tearing their hair out. One evening meal took over three hours, we we the first in and last out. She sent back a dozen dishes to fulfill her wish of being the centre of attention for the entire evening. I have lost count of the number of posh hotel restaurants where I have felt 2 feet tall by the end of the meal. She also used to polish all her cutlery and glasses with a tissue before using them, and she referred to waiting staff as "boy" and "girl". The phrase "is there any oil in it?" still haunts me today.
