::lol:: what? And actually have to fight with their hands when they can stand back a little from the frey and shoot people in the back?
Pfft... like that would ever happen in the first place, they'd have to pick a side and stick to it for a half an hour without finding a reason to divide it for some other petty reason

And that, I find really sad, especially if your daughter is a fan of the game. Aint nothing like seeing a professional sports match live, in person. I couldnt imagine my pops not taking me to the ball games when I was a lad.
Why the hatred towards the refs? Someones gotta do the job, eh? Otherwise there would be no game.

Football referees have a bad reputation in general. They used to be unpaid volunteers and their physical fitness and knowledge of the game was often called into question by fans and pundits.
Now they are paid professionals and there has been an improvement but they still make a lot of basic mistakes giving decisions the wrong way, missing obvious fouls, punishing players because of their reputation not because of their actual behaviour during the game etc. Plus you often get "homer" refs, referees that give the majority of decisions to the home team because they are easily swayed by the reactions of the fans of the home team.
Some referees like the limelight themselves too much and flash yellow and red cards like confetti just so they are the focus of attention. Also if a referee makes an obvious mistake that costs a team a game?, tough, hard luck, live with it, if the manager of a team dares to complain about the referee nine times out of ten they are censored and fined.

One of the things I always thought would be an improvement to the umpiring of that sport would be the addition of a 2nd referee. That's a big ass field they have to cover, and trying to keep up with some very fit motherfuckers for 90 minutes is asking a bit much. Has there ever been any discussion of that? As a youngin, I refereed youth soccer, and there were always two of us. Of course we also served as linesman, but two sets of eyes looking for penalties was always a lot better than one.

Yes having one referee for wach half of the pitch has been talked about. Linesman are now known as referees assistants and they can make calls on more things than the offside rule to the referee, if they see off the ball fouls the referee misses for example.
You have to have above average staminia to be a proper footballer, the average Premier League player covers and runs an average of 6 miles every 90 minutes. I am physically fit, I train, lift weights and run nearly everyday and I was recently asked to cover for my local non league side because the had three players in the same position (defensive midfield) injured.
After 90 minutes I was completely fucked and my legs were covered in bruises and scrapes.

The event that holds most of my interest..short track speed skating is over, so probably won't watch much more, unless Rick has it on. Closing ceremonies are nothing really, many of the athletes do not even stay for it.

Ahh, I didnt know that. I thought they could only call offsides, and whether or not the ball had crossed out of play. But from what you're saying, they wouldnt be allowed to call a hand ball if the referee obviously missed it?
