I was thinking about growing some weed this year, I have a perfect spot that's surrounded by bamboo.

I grew it many years ago and the seeds I used were huge as big as my pinky fingernail. Good green bud that grew in a pile of pigshit.

My garlic bulbs are fucking tiny this year. I kinda want to put them back in the ground. My zucchini was doing well, until some woodland creature took a bite out of every single one of them. My dogs, for some unknown reason, have taken a liking to green tomatoes. Carrots and radishes have been doing well. Corn stocks aren't doing so great this year, right now, the few ears that have bloomed are still babies.
I haven't even had hummingbirds yet, and I usually see them by now. This year's garden is depressing.

It sucks when you put so much work into something only to get mediocre results. I feel bad for you. I've had a few years like that.

One of the plants I'm tearing up is something I've never seen before, its getting huge and the base is like 4" thick. You know what it is? Freaking Sumac! Thats right Sumac with the white balls on it. That makes it Poison sumac. I almost just grabbed it and cut it down but thought about it and now i'm getting gloves and just trying to not get any "juice" on me. That shit is baaaaaad.

It was just a weird plant that I've never seen. I guess its classified as invasive but its the only one. It will be gone in the AM though and will be on top of the crap going to the dump.

I bought a bunch of different flower seeds this year. I usually grow out and save seeds from the previous year, but I dropped the ball last fall.
Anyway, I opened a package of petunia seeds, that I paid 3 bucks for, and there were only 12 seeds in the freaking package! 12! It's been a few years since I've had to buy seeds, who knew burpee was so stingy with their seeds.

Do you like self seeders, CG? Cleome, for example. I'm wondering if Cosmos do that, I get conflicting answers, but I'm kinda excited to find out.

My wild flower garden is self seeding. I really couldn't tell you what flowers are in there, it was some mix that I bought from home depot years ago.
The flowers that I have in pots on my back deck are the ones that I usually grow out in the fall, and plant the seed in the spring. I've had success with petunias, pansies, geraniums and definitely marigolds. I just never got around to sticking them in my greenhouse before the first frost last fall. I let my babies freeze to death!!!

Those are my favorite type of gardens, wild flower, cottage, etc. I'm not someone who cares for a "cultivated" look where all the plants are in a row like little soldiers. Most of my gardening is done in pots these days, I use A LOT of Calibrachoa, they are my favorite. I have quite a bit of Cosmos seeds and I'm going to plant them in front of a fence and hope it turns out the way I imagine. |
