In England our press call cetain pictures that press photographers get as 'The Money Shot'. This could be the Queen caught on camera slying picking her nose when she thinks no-one Is looking or David Beckham caught with some young nublie coming out of a nightclub
Yes, this post is about Horse-racing and I know It Is dreary to some but please read on because If any of you have ever used a zoom lens camera, you may be able to help me.
5 months from now at Kempton Park on Boxing Day our greatest race-horse Is running In a bid to win the King George Stakes for the 5th time running. From what I know, this Is very likely to be the 2nd to last time he will run before being retired. He Is entered for the 2011 Gold Cup next March but In racing, nothing Is certain.
I could take a zoom lens to Kempton on Boxing Day and get a shot of him as will thousands of other people but the Money Shot Is another matter entirely. Kauto Star winner of the 2008 and 2010 Gold Cup has a rival and stable mate called 'Denman' who stole his crown In the 2009 Gold Cup. Denman Is extremely unpredictable and moody. He may just decide on the day that he does not want to bother, he may throw his Jockey half way round or he may decide to beat Kauto Star by 10 lengths. He Is known In racing circles as 'The Tank' or 'Demolition Denman.
Last year, Denman was entered for the King george but was withdrawn from the race late In the day by his trainer, probably to allow stable mate Kauto Star make history by winning 4 years running.
He Is however, entered for this years race.
The Money Shot Is not just a pic of Kauto and Denman together as many have been taken before and I can get that In the paddock as they parade before the race. The Money Shot will be to get them both together coming over a fence side by side or even better, the last fence battling each other for the line.
I have no Idea of how the race will go let alone If there Is one particular fence that they will take neck and neck. They may not even take a fence together, Denman could take the lead and be clear right the way round the circuit.
I am gambling that true to Kauto form, he will settle In midfield, at around the 5th last fence, he will have moved up Into 4th place, by the 3 rd last, he should be In 2nd place, by the last fence he will In the lead.
Although so unpredictable, I am praying that Denman runs a classic Denman race and goes Into the lead early on meaning that Kauto will drawn level with him at the 2nd to last fence, over that, Kauto should pull clear to win. It Is at the 2nd to last fence that I have decided to wait with zoom lens. I want an upward shot so I will have to be face down on the ground with lens pointing up as they hopefully take that 2nd to last fence together.
These horses will be coming over that fence at around 30 mph so I have one shot at It.
Any tips would be helpful... Thanks

Of course America had been discovered earlier. It was hushed up.
