Yep. Just like Sting writing "Don't Stand So Close to Me" after working as an English teacher.

Quote:I wanted to write a song about sexuality in the classroom. I'd done teaching practice at secondary schools and been through the business of having 15-year-old girls fancying me – and me really fancying them! How I kept my hands off them I don't know...

As Finch was reportedly based on her father, I see it as a child coming of age and now viewing the world through her "adult" eyes . . . and the sometimes and disappointing, clay feet of ones' parents.

Me too. The location and social/political setting at the time are interesting to me.

But, I'm primarily interested in the relationship between the elderly father and adult daughter characters and how it was impacted by the difference in their social/political views.

I'm reading The Revenant by Michael Punke. It is also a newly released movie starring Leo DiCaprio. It's a very intense book. After reading about the bear attack and some of what comes next I (briefly) put it aside and started reading James Patterson's, Hope To Die because I needed some plain ol' murder & mayhem fiction.

I choose to buy the actual book rather than load it onto my iPad so that I can share it with a couple people. I think it's that good that I'd want to pass it on.

Saw the movie this weekend, haven't read the book. The film was intense and gory and riveting, and for the life of me I have no idea how they filmed that bear scene but I damn near crapped myself.
Thank god I am oblivious to the opinions of others while caught in the blinding splendor of my own cleverness.

Well it doesn't look like the school is going to get their book back anytime soon because that was about three years ago and I still haven't read it.

I ended up picking this book up and reading it a week or so ago and I thought to myself that it's one thing I should do before I die. I don't have much time during the day to read so I read a little bit every night before bed. Not only did I make it before I croaked, but I made it just before Harper Lee died. RIP.

All of the trees surrounding Leo were made of rubber so that he wouldn't be hurt when he was smashed into them. He was strapped into a harness that the stunt team used to yank him around. The bear was actually a man in a blue smurf-like suit with the "grizzly" being added in post production. The man in the suit said he watched hours upon hours of grizzly bears attacking their prey and studied their characteristics and the way they moved.

Think he'll win the Oscar? Sure as hell deserves something for that.

As an unrelated aside: do NOT see the Witch. Pure shit. Awful, awful movie.

He's hugely talented and has been nominated for an Academy Award five times. Go Leo!

Nominated for his role in -

What's Eating Gilbert Grape
The Aviator
Blood Diamond
The Wolf Of Wall Street
The Revenant

When I see Leo's pix in the Daily Mail he reminds me of Jack Nicholson but when I hear him speaking as himself the resemblance disappears, he's much more quiet and refined than Jack. Like I know these people, that made me snort.

.

I've thought that Leo has been the best actor of his generation for some time now.

Whatever he does, he's very good:

Django, Inception, The Departed, Catch Me If You Can, Gangs Of New York, etc.

To think he hasn't won an Oscar yet is incredible.

As I was reading about him it was referred to as his being "snubbed", I also read "robbed". I haven't seen any of those films but I have read about his role in them and he's always spoken very highly of, people have commented consistently of his talent, his skill.

I'm pulling for Sly as best supporting.

It's getting great reviews. What was so bad about it?
