*IN THE LINE OF DUTY* OFFICER DOWN
this bastard is still at large. jamie hood.

Athens Banner-Herald
Thursday, March 24, 2011
An FBI SWAT team stormed an Eastside home this afternoon looking for the killer of an Athens-Clarke County police officer, but they came up empty.

The team of heavily armed special agents threw stun grenades into a home on Murrell Road shortly after 1:30 p.m. then entered, believing 33-year-old Jamie Hood might be inside, officials said.

“When you have someone who calls the command post and says, ‘I’ve known Jamie Hood all my life and I saw him at this spot,’ we need to validate the report,” Georgia Bureau of Investigation Director Vernon Keenan said.

Authorities obtained a search warrant before the SWAT team entered the home, a block away from where Hood’s parents live on Ranick Road, off Spring Valley Road.

ATHENS, Ga. -- Police turned to Facebook and Twitter on Friday morning to get a message to the man wanted in connection with the shooting death of an Athens police officer. The message asked 33-year-old Jamie Hood to turn himself in.

About 50 officers continued looking for Hood on Friday.

Just after midnight, Athens-Clarke County police posted a message on their Facebook page for Hood. The message said Hood could safely turn himself in.

The message also said Hood's friends and family believe he would turn himself in, but Hood is afraid law enforcement will kill him.

Throughout the day Thursday, officers blanketed a wooded area near Athens Road after K-9 units picked up Hood's scent. At points, investigators said they believed they were just 40 minutes behind Hood, but he managed to stay a step ahead. Police said they believe Hood is getting help to hide.

"As far as I'm concerned, there are probably some people that are helping him, so that is the only way that he continues to stay low in Athens," said Athens Police Capt. Clarence Holeman.

the big bad cop-killing coward surrendered. he insisted it be on live TV and he surrounded himself with his hostages. he was afraid he might get shot. i suspect his 'hostages' were harboring him.
he even whined his cuffs were too tight.
i hope he dies crying on GA death row.

This is the one thread I hate seeing new entries on. I read it only out of respect for the officers that gave their lives. I feel to ignore it is to minimize their and their family's sacrifice.

I don't know if there is just more publicity surrounding cop killings or if it truly is increasing in frequency. I have a feeling of fear whenever I hear about another one. Fear for all LE and our communities. That it's becoming to commonplace.

I was raised to have the upmost respect for all LE and that they were the keepers of our way of life. They were "a step above". It feels as if they are no longer revered in the manner they deserve.

They deserve all the accolades we give our troops fighting overseas. They are the troops fighting for us at home.

The only message I could possibly send to their famlies and their co-workers is a simple "I'm so sorry".

a brave, unselfish and valued officer, Kane. 59 RIP
a memorial is planned.
in a statement, a spokesman for the sheriff's office said: "K-9's hold a special place in the hearts of both police officers and the community members they serve.

A decorated sheriff’s dog was killed in the line of duty in Washington state early Saturday after he was stabbed trying to apprehend a suspect.

The black Dutch shepherd, “Kane,” had tracked down a male suspect after he and a female accomplice driving a stolen car rammed a police vehicle and took off running.

Kane, who was trained to bite and hold suspects, tracked down 31-year-old Keegan Graves. Deputies say Graves stabbed the dog numerous times.

The dog was rushed to St. Francis Animal hospital in Clark County where he died from his injuries.

A SWAT team later apprehended Graves and 22-year-old Natasa Cresap. Graves faces charges of harming a police dog, auto theft and attempting to elude a police officer, while Cresap was arrested on an outstanding warrant.

Kane had worked with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office for six years and was scheduled for retirement in 2012.

Police: Kalamazoo officer fatally shot by suspect

KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- Authorities say a man has fatally shot a police officer in southwestern Michigan before killing himself.

The Kalamazoo Public Safety department says in a statement that officers encountered the 31-year-old man from Kalamazoo on the porch of a home about 11:18 p.m. Monday while investigating reports of gunfire and asked him whether he had heard shots in the area.

Police say the man advanced toward an officer, brandished a handgun and exchanged gunfire with the officer before fleeing between houses. Seconds later, police say officers heard another round of gunfire and found a Kalamazoo officer fatally shot.

Police say the suspect died at the scene from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot.

Kalamazoo is located about 50 miles south of Grand Rapids and about 130 miles west of Detroit.

SPRINGFIELD — Eugene police officer Chris Kilcullen — a 12-year veteran of the city police force and a father of two — was fatally shot Friday afternoon while pursuing a car that had sped away from his motorcycle during an attempted traffic stop on Interstate 105, police said.

Authorities arrested the woman who allegedly killed Kilcullen following a standoff with a police SWAT team that cornered her east of Lowell. That was after she allegedly led officers on a 20-mile chase to the rural area after fleeing the scene of the shooting, which occurred about 4:30 p.m. along the Highway 126 Expressway in Springfield’s Thurston area.

The suspected shooter is identified as Cheryl D. Kidd, 56, of Springfield. Kidd was being interviewed late Friday night by detectives and will be lodged in the Lane County Jail on a murder charge, Springfield Police Chief Jerry Smith said.

It remains unclear what led Kidd to allegedly pull out a handgun and shoot the officer.

“We still have to see what’s going on with her,” Smith said, adding that investigators will speak with the woman’s friends and family.

Kilcullen, 43, is the first Eugene police officer to die in the line of duty since 1934.

During a brief but somber news conference held less than six hours after the shooting, Eugene Police Chief Pete Kerns spoke of Kilcullen’s “honorable career” with the department and recalled the officer as a “very popular guy” who was “relentlessly positive and upbeat.”

Flanked by a group of police supervisors — three of whom had affixed black bands to their badges in a display of mourning — Kerns said he was pleased to hear that Kilcullen’s alleged killer had been taken into custody uninjured, although he expressed bitterness about the incident.

“I am personally angered by this — that someone would kill one of our officers,” Kerns said.

The incident that ultimately led to Kilcullen’s death and Kidd’s arrest began when the officer — working on his motorcycle as a member of the police department’s traffic enforcement team — tried to stop an eastbound 1998 Buick Skylark on Interstate 105, police said.

Instead of pulling over for Kilcullen, the Buick’s driver sped into Springfield on the interstate, which becomes the Highway 126 Expressway east of Interstate 5. Police radio traffic indicated that the driver reached 80 mph during the pursuit, before approaching the highway’s intersection with 52nd Street in Springfield’s Thurston area.

A number of vehicles were stopped at a red light at the intersection. Smith said the Buick slowed and swerved around to the right of those vehicles, while Kilcullen pulled up beside the car and lowered his motorcycle’s kickstand.

“We have some indications that he was trying to point for (Kidd) to pull over, and she fired at least one round from a handgun” striking Kilcullen, Smith said.

Kilcullen fell against the rear tire of a tractor-trailer rig that had stopped at the intersection, Smith said.

Kilcullen did not return fire, Eugene police Sgt. Sam Kamkar said.

Kilcullen was taken by ambulance to Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend in Springfield, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

While police and medics raced to the scene of the shooting, the Buick continued along the highway, with Springfield police giving chase. Kidd allegedly disregarded officers and drove south to Jasper-Lowell Road before heading east toward Lowell. She continued on North Shore Drive, then turned onto a U.S. Forest Service road where she reached a dead end, police said.

At least one officer immediately began negotiating with Kidd, while others set up a perimeter around the Buick, Smith said.

Police were able to talk the woman out of the car and take her into custody about 7:30 p.m., Smith said.

Rest In Peace Officer Kilcullen

Texas
A shootout near the Johnson County town of Venus left a gunman and a sheriff's deputy dead Saturday afternoon, and a walkie-talkie on the belt of a second deputy deflected a bullet.

Three deputies were dispatched to answer a domestic disturbance.

They first went to the front door of a house, then to a shed on the property, where a man inside opened fire, the Sheriff's Department said.

The gunman was fatally shot when deputies returned fire, Johnson County Sheriff Bob Alford said.

Killed was Deputy Clifton Taylor, 31, who had been with the department a little more than three years and was engaged to be married.

Taylor was shot three times, in his neck, his side and his back, likely when he was falling to the ground, Alford said. He was pronounced dead at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth after being flown by medical helicopter from the scene.

Alford said at a news conference outside JPS Hospital that Taylor was a "dedicated officer" who was "exemplified by his actions today."

"I can't say enough what a fine officer Clifton Taylor was ... what a fine man he was," the sheriff said. "He attended church with me. He will be missed."

The gunman, identified as Wesley Davis, 47, of Oklahoma, was killed when two other deputies and a Venus police officer returned fire, Alford said.

Taylor was the first deputy at the scene in the 2200 block of Eagle Court, just outside the Venus city limits, he said.

A family member told Taylor that Davis had fled to a shed with a handgun and "that he needed to be careful."

Alford said Davis opened fire with a .380 pistol when the officers approached the shed.

"Our officers did return fire," he said. Sheriff's deputies carry .357 Magnums, he said.

RIP Officer Taylor
