Another felon who was prohibited, by Cali's "tough" gun laws, from possessing firearms.
Go figure . . . a criminal not following the law.
Condolences and strength to these officers' families.

Another case of officers being shot when responding to a domestic disturbance call. "(
This time, it went down in Boston, Massachusetts when officers arrived at what was reported as a dispute between roommates.
Two officers were shot by the suspect who, like in the last case, was wearing a bullet-proof vest and armed with a semi-automatic rifle and lots of ammo.
Several other officers arrived at the scene and, reportedly under gunfire, pulled the critically wounded officers out of the residence. The two wounded officers have undergone surgery. They haven't been identified yet; hoping they pull through.
The suspect ^, 33-year-old Kirk Figueroa, was shot dead at the scene. He was was a city constable. According to City Council minutes, Figueroa was approved to be a constable by the council in April 13 following a background investigation by Boston police.
In 2006, Boston.com reported that constables “carry badges and have arrest powers” and that nearly half had previously been arrested themselves.
The suspect's ElitePolicing.org bio claims that he was a former member of a US Army Reserves military police unit who is trained in martial arts and licensed to work as a bounty hunter in California, along with being certified as both a jail guard and a “Certified Homeland Protection Professional” (CHPP).
I'll post more about the victims and the case when details/updates are available.

The two Boston PD Officers who were critically shot last night have been identified.
^ Officers Richard Cintolo and Matt Morris.
Good news. Chief Evans said tonight that both are still in critical condition, but improving after blood transfusions and operations and expected to fully cover.
While tactical teams exchanged fire with Figueroa, other officers pulled Cintolo and Morris to safety and applied a tourniquet to Morris’s leg.
“The officers were quick to put their hands (on the wound) as well as apply a tourniquet, which doctors later said probably saved his life,” Evans said.

Sad news this morning.
Police officers from the Des Moines and Urbandale departments responded to a 'shots fired' call a little after 1 a.m. this morning and found an Urbandale officer dead.
Then, about 20 minutes later, a Des Moines police officer was shot and killed near the intersection of Merle Hay Road and Sheridan Avenue while responding to the scene where the Urbandale officer was shot.
Both officers were shot in their patrol cars in what appears to be an ambush. Nearby schools are closed as LE searches for a suspect(s). The slain officers have not yet been publicly identified. RIP.

And people are quick to criticize this profession when at any moment some prick can decide to end your life.
It's a fine line, but I personally understand if a cop is going to err on the side of caution.
Edit: and, as a (white) law abiding citizen, I have nothing to worry about.
If I were black, and law-abiding and had kids, I'd make damn sure that I had a game plan for anytime I was pulled over (fairly or unfairly).
If a person is respectful, has their documents on hand, it's no problem.

IOWA Suspect Identified
46-year-old Scott Michael Greene.
Greene has a record of domestic violence, DUI, assault, and harassment. He is considered armed and dangerous.
What a piece of shit he is. It seems to me he was either angry at police and exacting revenge, or he shot the officers and wanted it to be blamed on blacks.
A couple of weeks back, Greene went to an Urbandale High School football game. He sat in front of black people and started waving around a Confederate flag. Several people complained to police officers at the game that he was causing a disturbance, so a police officer escorted him off the premises. Greene filmed it.
Greene first tried to claim that the escorting officer assaulted him, which he clearly did not. He then claimed that his property was stolen. Then he claimed he was assaulted by African Americans. The officers who were interacting with Greene showed great patience, in my opinion.
I hope this guy is captured soon. Here's the video he recorded at the football game.

Nitek was arrested on Sunday after exchanging gun fire with police. He is a registered sex offender with a long history of violent crime.

This father was shot and killed in California by a legal and trained firearms owner -- another cop.
^ Deputy Sgt. Rod Lucas, RIP, was speaking to his colleague about gun safety when he was shot in the chest at a sheriff's office near the Fresno Yosemite International Airport on Monday.
The veteran deputy and 46-year-old father-of-four was having a conversation with a detective and two other colleagues about how to carry their backup weapons when the shot was fired.
'The detective had his weapon out. During this discussion, the detective's weapon discharged,' the sheriff said.
Officer Lucas was given CPR at the scene and rushed to the Community Regional Medical Center for treatment, but later died.
Police did not disclose the type of firearm involved in the incident, saying only that it was 'an improved secondary weapon for the detective.'
The detective who fired the fatal bullet has not been named, but authorities said he was extremely upset following the incident (well, no shit).

Officer Cody Brotherson was only 25-years-old. RIP.
Brotherson had been looking into an incident that was 'criminal in nature', and had began pursuit of a vehicle with three suspects inside.
When they reached an intersection, the officer got out of his car but was run down by the fleeing suspects, police said.
A ground search of the area was undertaken shortly after the incident and three suspects have been taken into custody for questioning.
Brotherson, who grew up in West Valley City and joined his local police force in 2012, is survived by his parents, his two brothers and his fiancee.

And... another police officer, husband, and father killed by an angry criminal while responding to a disturbance call.
Show Low Officer ^ Darrin Reed, was killed when answering a disturbance call in the 400 block of West Deuce of Clubs, near an Arby's restaurant, shortly after noon Tuesday, police said.
Reed, 50, had worked for Show Low police since 2006. Before that, he worked for the Navajo County Sheriff's Office. He was taken to Summit Healthcare Regional Medical Center after Tuesday afternoon's shooting and later died from his injuries. Reed was killed weeks before his planned retirement, officials said. RIP Officer Reed.
^ Officer Reed's killer, Daniel Erickson - 36, is dead.
He was killed by police after an hours-long standoff with law enforcement ended early Wednesday. He'd been barricaded for about 6½ hours at Lake of the Woods Resort, periodically shooting at officers from a cabin. The standoff came to an end when officers returned fire and killed Erickson. The 15-year-old girl Erickson had been holding hostage was not harmed in the shootout and was taken to a hospital for evaluation.

RIP
Peach County Sheriff's Deputy Daryl Smallwood, 39, and Deputy Patrick Sondron, 42, were shot on Sunday.
Officer Smallwood was a police officer for 15 years and was engaged to be married. He died on Sunday night. Officer Sondron was an Air Force Veteran and a married father of three. He died yesterday. They are the first line-of-duty deaths in the county's history.
The deputies were shot when responding to a 911 call on Sunday. The call was made by the parents of some teens who'd been threatened with a gun when riding four-wheelers near the home of Ralph Stanley Elrod, 57 (no photo available yet). Elrod is the father of a police officer.
When Smallwood and Sondron arrived at the scene, Elrod reportedly ambushed them and shot at them 50 times.
Elrod was shot once in the stomach by one of the officers and survived. He is charged with double murder.

^ Stanislaus Deputy Dennis Wallace, 53, was responding to a call about a suspicious car and person around 8:30 a.m. yesterday when he was shot twice in the head.
The 20-year veteran of the sheriff’s department had just enough time to request backup after finding the suspect’s stolen vehicle before he was killed.
Officer Wallace was well-liked within the force; he was known for his work in the DARE drug and violence prevention program and had a special bond with young people. He leaves behind a wife and family. RIP.
^ David Machado, 36, was arrested for the shooting after an hours-long manhunt. He's a real piece of shit.
“Within seconds he (Officer Wallace) was murdered, he was executed,” Sheriff Christianson said of the brazen attack in Hughson’s Fox Grove Park, about 95 miles northeast of San Jose.
“We know for a fact that the gun used was in direct contact with his head when the trigger was pulled, twice. This was an execution.”
Christianson described Machado as a known criminal. After fleeing the scene, Machado carjacked someone in the community of Keyes, making off with a white 2009 Kia Rio.
“He was wanted for a felony warrant for felony-related criminal activity and of course he was in a stolen vehicle,” the sheriff said.

^ Patrick Carothers, 53, was a 26-year veteran of the Marshals Service. He was the deputy commander of the Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force for more than a year. He leaves behind a wife and five children. RIP.
The Marshals Service said Deputy Commander Carothers was killed in the line of duty in Long County while he tried to serve a warrant for fugitive ^ Dontrell Montese Carter’s arrest.
Carter, who the Blue Lives Matter page says was afflicted with an acute case of lead poisoning, was wanted for attempted murder of police officers, domestic violence and unlawfully discharging a weapon during an incident in South Carolina in September.
The Marshals Service said the team located Carter in a single-wide trailer near the 11800 block of Tibit Drive near Ludowici. Carothers’ team was making entry when he sustained two fatal rounds. The team returned gunfire, hitting Carter multiple times. Carter also died.
