Zahra Baker, a murdered child
Hickory Record:

When the Bakers moved to Sawmills, neighbors said Elisa Baker’s other husband lived right across the street.

“She always told us it was her brother and then, after they moved out, I found out it was her old man,” neighbor Bobby Green said.

WSOC video here, the house Zahra lived in has been vandalized, which is disgusting. the owner/landlord has already taken a big loss on damages to the place. i hope he's recompensed.
also, it seems from this report adam baker has to appear in court friday (today) on 4 bad check charges.
i have some very slight hope he's going to be arrested on charges related to Zahra at that time.

bugger.

he lets his mommy run interference for him with the people outside. 12

NEWTON, NC (WBTV) - The father of Zahra Baker was in Catawba County court Friday morning on four misdemeanor charges.

After he left the court, several people confronted him about the death of his daughter, Zahra, whose body may have been dismembered after she died.

Friday morning, Baker was appointed an attorney in the case, in which he is facing four misdemeanor worthless checks charges. He is not charged in the death or disappearance of Zahra, who was reported missing on Oct. 9.

WBTV's Derrick Rose spotted Baker and his mother Karen Baker at the courthouse just before 9 a.m. Monday morning. Neither of them made any comments to the media. Adam Baker also avoided commenting when asked if his wife, Elisa Baker might have been still married when she married him in Australia in 2008.

This isn't any more than an editorial section of an Aussie news site, but the emotions fit so well. It's titled "A smile hid little Zahra Baker's pain" and it ends with the following:

"... It makes you wonder how so many people have grown to love this little girl they did not know, and now will never know. This little girl with so much to overcome, born to misery.

It was not her memory people have fallen in love with.

It was her example."

he's as worthless as his checks.

(more court photos post #363)

Observer News Enterprise:

Baker is charged with four worthless check charges. According to court documents, Baker allegedly wrote four worthless checks during a period of one week in May 2009.
The checks were all written to Lowes Foods on U.S. 321 in Hickory. Baker allegedly wrote two bad checks May 10, 2009 worth $84.88 and $39.50. The next day, Baker allegedly wrote another bad check worth $41.52. On May 16, 2009, he allegedly wrote a fourth bad check valued at $72.20.
These amounts include the cost of the merchandise, as well as processing and bank fees, according to the Catawba County Clerk of Court's Office.
District Court Judge Robert. A Mullinax Jr. appointed Mark Killian, a Hickory-based attorney, to represent Baker on the worthless check charges. Baker was required to fill out an affidavit at the Catawba County Clerk of Court's Office to certify he can't afford to hire a lawyer. According to the affidavit of indigency Baker filled out, he has no monthly income. He listed no money coming in from employment, welfare, Social Security or his spouse's employment.
Baker has $80 in total assets and liabilities, and he didn't list any other personal assets on the affidavit, which can include vehicles and real estate.
Baker listed his current address as an apartment in Hudson.

Zahra Baker memorial removed from home

HICKORY, NC (WBTV) - Attorneys for Elisa Baker were at her former in Hickory home Saturday.
There, they gathered the last of her belongings.
Also Saturday, the front yard memorial, including toys and cards people placed around the tree, is gone.
The tree was cut down, too.
It became a landmark in Hickory.
the property owner says it was time to take down after the home got vandalized last week.
The homeowner says he'll donate any toys still in good condition to Cops for Tots.
He's hoping others in Hickory do the same and take toy donations for Zahra to Hickory PD.

Saturday, Coffey was heard telling a small group of people at the house that he is considering bulldozing it. He said repairing the house would not be cost-effective because Hickory police did an estimated $30,000 in damage to the 900-square-foot house when they removed sections of the walls during their search for evidence of what happened to Zahra.

He added that he is angry with Hickory police for refusing to post a guard at the property, and he told those gathered at the house that they were in danger, because whoever broke the home’s windows could come back.

Does the land owner really believe taking down "The Tree" will stop any vandalizm? He took it down way too soon and will only piss off more nutcases. IMO, the whole house of hell needs to taken down as well.

How could anyone dismember this sweet little girl is beyond my comprehension. That nasty dimwit facktard, Adam Baker, is still walking around free with his mummy leading the way. Unreal, and we American taxpayers will be paying for his defense. Unfuckinbelievable.

As simple minded as he looks, he is just one evil SOB. There is NO way he didn't know what was going on in that house. Ther is NO way Elisa dismembered Zahra's body and disposed of it by herself. He is complicit in her death and a public lynching would be too good for him..and her.

According to Charlotte Observer

Zahra Baker's family plans a memorial service next week to celebrate the life of the 10-year-old cancer survivor whose tragic death shocked many captured by her winning smile.

The service is set for 7 p.m. Thursday at Drum Funeral Home's chapel on 29th Avenue Northeast in Hickory.

An obituary the funeral home says was submitted by Zahra's father, Adam Baker, lists several of the girl's family members, including many from her native Australia, but omits the name of Adam Baker's wife and Zahra's stepmother, Elisa Baker.

the press was waiting to get these today.
damn. i know why they remained sealed, but i want to read them!

WSOC
HICKORY, N.C. -- Search warrants in the investigation into Zahra Baker’s disappearance and death will remain sealed, a judge ruled Monday.

The District Attorney’s Office filed a motion to keep the documents from becoming public just as they were about to be unsealed. Unsealing the warrants would undermine or jeopardize the state’s right to prosecute a defendant, the motion claimed.

A total of 11 search warrants in the case are sealed. Several are related to searches done at the Bakers’ Hickory home, which was left with holes in the walls, floors and ceilings after investigators scoured it for evidence. Other warrants involved information from the Facebook and MySpace accounts of Zahra Baker’s stepmother, Elisa Baker.

District Attorney Jay Gaither said the investigation is ongoing and keeping the warrants sealed is important to the integrity of the investigation.

Another hearing is set for Dec.13.

No one has been charged in Zahra’s death or disappearance. She was reported missing on Oct. 9, and more than a month later, remains that police believe are hers were found in a rural area of Caldwell County. Investigators are still awaiting the results of DNA and forensic testing on the remains and other evidence in the case.

Elisa Baker remains in jail on an obstruction of justice charge after police said she admitted to writing a fake ransom note regarding another child the day that Zahra was reported missing.

This kind of story kills me ... I just can't stand to think about it for long. That's the bottom line. Frustration that I can't prevent it.

Herald Sun AUS news.

ZAHRA Baker's father and grandmother are in hiding, under police protection, as public anger surges.

The police protection will cover the planned memorial service this week for the murdered Australian 10-year-old, the Townsville Bulletin said.

Adam and Karen Baker have vowed that verbal abuse and intimidation will not deter them from honouring Zahra, as happened during the candlelight vigil on November 16 attended by more than 1000 on what would have been her 11th birthday.

The service, on Thursday, will be held in a chapel that seats about 200 people.

No funeral can be held until police complete their investigation into the disappearance and death of the little girl, a two-time cancer survivor who had a prosthetic leg and also suffered from impaired hearing.

The Baker family will throw open the doors of the memorial service to the public, saying they understand that others need closure too - everyone who helped look for Zahra over that agonising five-week period, the police investigators, emergency workers, her school mates, close friends and neighbours, and complete strangers whose lives were touched by her story.

Her grieving father and grandmother will be in the front pew of the church service to be held at the Drum Funeral Home in Hickory before the Reverend Larry Cooley, saying this time they refuse to be cowed by public vilification into not attending the memorial to Zahra's life.

"This time we're not going to stay away because people think we should," Karen Baker said, speaking exclusively to the Townsville Bulletin from her hideaway.

"We can't have a funeral for our baby because the police have not released her body, and we don't know how long it will take for them to give her back to us.

Oh please if those two cowardly jackasses are so scared of the public why is the memorial being publicized? It's all over local radio etc, my guess would be that Drum is donating the service so if they really wanted to honor her in private then they should do it privately, this is their PR event to show the world that scumbag is innocent and a poor grieving father.

There's a reason he's not incarcerated, I don't know what it is but, I feel certain if there were any evidence against him he would be in custody. What would LE's reasoning be behind letting him remain free?

i don't think they have all their forensics back for one thing.
i am sure that they are getting all their ducks in a row, building a very tight case and anticipating a trial. when/if they go to trial they want a conviction, and have to anticipate all the defense strategies that will be used.
the DA and police are very aware that the public is looking for a lynching and growing impatient for an arrest. when/if it comes, it will mean they have all the evidence they need. right now i don't think they have more than a case of improper disposal of a body. they need more.
