My question is why, if this lady wanted to kill herself, did she go
to such an extreme to make it look like a homicide. I just don't buy
the excuse "in case she changed her mind."
Also somewhere (sorry don't remember where), it was said that young
Max went approximately 30 minutes without oxygen to his brain which
ultimately killed him. If he had been given CPR sooner, would he not have
survived? Has it been documented just how long it took medics to reach
the home? We do know he was alive when he reached hospital.

Before she died a distraught Zahau painted a message in black paint on a door revealed San Diego Country Sheriff Bill Gore, as he said police had concluded the death was suicide not murder.

According to Zahau's ex-husband, Neil Nalepa, it read: 'She saved him, can he save her.'

Any ideas on what "She saved him, can he save her" means??? So bizarre.

Such ugly carpet in a rich man's house is also bizarre....

All of this sounds very weird, I agree. Perhaps the knife was used to cut the rope to bind her ankles/wrists - whoever did it. Maybe the rope was purchased and came in the plastic bag. ?????? Wonder if she knew how to tie those knots so they wouldn't slip??? Too many questions in my mind. Doesn't appear to be a suicide in so many different ways. And why the "wounds" on the top of her head? Sounds like she was assaulted and then tied up. Finally, I don't understand the message in black paint either.

This is such a sad case, that I think they closed too early. Thankfully the family is fighting it, too many unanswered questions. What I did read in an article on CNN yesterday about this case, is the family was questioning what “type” of knots where tied around her hands and feet then around her neck. It is speculated that they were marine knots, which it has been speculated that the brother is a sailor.

LC, I agree. I had accepted the "suicide" theory until latest results of
autopsy, etc. Channel 10 in SD, said that police had been called to the mansion approx 13 times during Jonah's previous marriage
to his son's mother for domestic abuse. One theory is that when
family knew son was going to die, someone became so enraged, they
injured/ killed Rebecca accidentally (blaming her for boy's death) and went on to stage death. This is my opinion only. I was in SD first week
in August and so wanted to drive by mansion. We were on Coronado
Island for a time, but never did the drive-by.

In an unusual move, the San Diego County Sheriff's Department and medical examiner on Tuesday released additional details about the death of Rebecca Zahau at the Spreckels mansion in Coronado.

But Dr. Jonathan Lucas, deputy medical examiner, said none of the findings change the conclusion that Zahau, 32, committed suicide by hanging.

"As in any comprehensive investigation, some findings cannot be entirely explained," Lucas said in a statement. "None of the observations listed ... are inconsistent with the conclusions reached regarding the cause and manner of death of Rebecca Zahau."

On Friday, Lucas, Sheriff William Gore and other law enforcement officials held a news conference to announce that their investigation had determined that Zahau killed herself after learning that the 6-year-old son of her boyfriend, pharmaceutical executive Jonah Shacknai, was going to die of injuries suffered in a fall at the mansion while he was in her care.

Zahau's family has told reporters that they do not believe she committed suicide. The family was briefed by investigators in the days before the news conference.

In a release Tuesday, Lucas said there were bruises on Zahau's scalp, a T-shirt had been wrapped around her neck and was stuffed in her mouth, and there was blood on her inner thighs.

Lucas said the bruises were minor and may have been caused when she slipped over the balcony with the rope around her neck.

The T-shirt in the mouth is not unusual, he said. "It is not clear why it was there, although people can place material in her mouth prior to hanging," he said.

The blood was not the result of rape but probably due to an intrauterine device or menstruation, Lucas said.

Dickey allegedly came home, woke up a son sleeping on a couch, hugged him and said 'I love you, your mother is an angel and you will get through this'.

(PRICHARD, Ala.) - An alleged 80-year-old crack dealer, has been busted once again and today LOCAL 15 News was the only news crew on scene as Prichard Police took Ola Mae Robinson into custody.

"You don't sell crack cocaine?" Andrea Ramey asked.

"Who? No! I don't have time for no crack cocaine," said Ola Mae.

She claims she's no crack dealer.
"Wish I was," she said, "Cause then I'd have money."

But Prichard Police say she is getting plenty of money selling drugs in the neighborhood, and it's not her first arrest for doing so. Just this past June, she was picked up on possession and distribution charges.

"Police say you haven't learned your lesson," said Ramey.

"Learned me a lesson," Ola Mae responded. "Tell 'em they need to learn one."

Today, police executed a search warrant in her Prichard home and once again, investigators say they found quite a bit of crack cocaine and pills.

"How do you explain all the drugs in your house?" Andrea asked Ole Mae as she was being taken into custody.

"It wasn't mine! Til they found me I was sitting up in my chair noddin!" explained the 80 year old.

Prichard's Police Chief Jimmie Gardner says it's never easy to arrest an elderly person,

"It's tough because for all of us, we look up to the elderly community to be smarter, wiser, and responsible but unfortunately, I think she has a long history and age hasn't made a difference," says Gardner.

But age has made a difference for Ola Mae physically.

"All I want to do is take my behind and sit it down somewhere," she said.

And she will be able to in Metro Jail.

Thomas McCulloch, who killed three people with an axe in 1976, has been permitted trips out of prison in Scotland to complete a course involving cutting down trees and shrubs.

In 1976, McCulloch was convicted along with his gay lover Robert Mone of killing a nurse, a patient and a policeman at a hospital in South Lanarks.

Although he is serving a life sentence, he's been allowed out of prison in Angus to complete a course at an Aberdeenshire nature reserve, with photos of the 63-year-old receiving his certificate appearing in jail magazine The Gallery.

'He may be old now but there is evidence he is still a very dangerous man,' a prison source told the Daily Record.

'All prisoners going on courses are vetted but I don't think its a good idea to let a murderer like McCulloch near sharp implements such as axes and secateurs - that could be a disaster waiting to happen.'

In June, residents in Dumbarton put together a petition to protest a possible decision to re-home the convict in the area.

Amanda Brumfield, the estranged daughter of actor Billy Bob Thornton, was sentenced to 20 years in prison Thursday for aggravated manslaughter in the 2008 death her goddaughter, who died while in her care.

Brumfield was convicted on a charge of aggravated manslaughter of a child in May.

She had initially faced a murder charge for the death of 1-year-old Olivia Madison Garcia, during an overnight stay at her Ocoee home in October 2008. But Brumfield was found not-guilty of first-degree murder and aggravated child-abuse.

Brumfield had said she frequently cared for Olivia, her friend Heather Murphy's daughter, at her home and has maintained the girl was trying to climb out of a playpen and fell a short distance, hitting her head. The defense suggested the fall may have aggravated a previous injury.

The prosecution argued it was impossible that a fall from that height caused a 3 1/2-inch fracture on the back of the girl's skull and the bleeding and swelling found in her brain.

Brumfield, shackled at the waist and wearing a dark blue jail jumpsuit, sat at the defense table with her lawyers as she awaited her fate Thursday.

Emotions ran high as loved ones of both women, once the closest of friends, sat in Courtroom 10D of the Orange County Courthouse.

Murphy delivered an emotionally wrenching statement on the loss of her child, whom she called Liv.

"I can't believe you're gone," she said. "All I want to do is take you trick-or-treating, and to dress you up as Tinkerbell … Mommy is so incomplete without you."

The toddler with the wild hair and toothy smile loved mandarin oranges, her mom said, and enjoyed playing with doorstops so much that she broke all of them in the family's home

Olivia's older sister Isabella is still struggling with the loss as well, she said. The girl still asks when her sister is coming home, Murphy said, and on her birthday, "she wanted to tie an ice cream cone to a balloon so Liv would have something to snack on in heaven."

Sept. 30 would have been Olivia's 4^th birthday, Murphy said, and the sentencing fell three years to the day after the little girl's funeral.

When the judge asked Brumfield if she had anything to say, she managed a single sentence before breaking down. "I miss Olivia just as much as anybody does," she said.

Brumfield's family and friends, many of whom wore white shirts in the courtroom in a show of support, were visibly angered and distraught by the sentence.

Brumfield has two children of her own as well as a stepchild. Olivia was a frequent presence in her home, and treated as part of the family, the defense said.

The defense presented testimony from Brumfield's pastor and a close friend, both of whom praised her as a caring mother who opened her home to friends in need and would never deliberately harm a child.

Christina Stewart, who described herself as Brumfield's best friend, read a letter from Brumfield to the court. "Olivia brought joy to our family from the moment she was born," she wrote. "Olivia always was, is and will be my little girl."

The defense had hoped that Judge Reginald Whitehead would hand down a more lenient sentence. He acknowledged the sadness of the situation for all involved before issuing the sentence.

Whitehead credited Brumfield for 165 days served, and also ordered payment of investigative and prosecution costs totaling about $10,000.

Outside the courthouse, Murphy said the sentence was "more than I expected … I feel justice has been served."

However, she said, no sentence, however severe or lenient, will help ease the pain of the loss of her daughter.
